Forspoken is Square Enix's latest magically open-world action RPG that boasts an expansive and strange new world for players to explore, but some players may be wondering how its map compares to other impressive game maps like Elden Ring and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Elden Ring and BOTW have been hailed as two of the greatest open-world games ever released, with both entries boasting large, vibrant landscapes filled with mysteries to solve and enemies to encounter. Although Forspoken hasn't received the same level of hype or attention as Elden Ring or BOTW, its open world is set to be one of the biggest seen on the PlayStation 5.

There are more than a few games to look forward to this year, but Forspoken is one 2023 RPG that is among the biggest. The open-world fantasy title whisks players away from the cityscape of New York City to the mythical land of Athia, with players assuming the role of Frey, a young woman who - with some new magic powers - must overcome the threats of the new realm. Originally slated for release in early 2022, Forspoken was delayed twice before eventually settling on a January 24, 2023 launch.

Players already have a good idea of how large Forspoken's map will be, thanks to a fan who figured out that the game's map will be at least 10 times larger than the space that was available in the demo. Reddit user AbUndMax used map markers and the demo's overworld map to determine what players can expect with the full release. Developers claim it will take 30 to 40 hours to complete the game's main story, with it taking plenty of combat and exploration in Forspoken to complete every side quest and discover everything the large map has to offer.

Forspoken's Map Will Hopefully Be As Fun To Explore As Elden Ring's & BOTW's

Beloved games like Elden Ring and Zelda: Breath of the Wild feature huge maps that hold many secrets and feel rewarding to explore, so it will take a lot for Forspoken to equal them. Elden Ring and Zelda: BOTW allow players to navigate their maps in any order they choose, and it can take roughly 50 to 60 hours to discover fully. According to AbUndMax's calculations, Forspoken's full map may take just as long to explore, but it remains to be seen if the world is filled with as much detail.

Unfortunately, while there's a lot to look forward to with Square Enix's upcoming open-world title, Forspoken has been roasted online after a trailer released with conflicting tones and dialogue criticized for being overly snarky and cringe. While some of these apprehensions may have been dispelled with the release of the demo, Forspoken's gameplay and large open world may struggle to counteract narrative criticisms like its under-fire dialogue.
