Gus Smyrnios from MTV's Floribama Shore is officially an engaged man. The 26-year-old Florida native announced on Sunday that he popped the big question to girlfriend Samantha "Sami" Carucci, who excitedly showed off the glistening rock on her left hand in a set of sweet photos. For Gus, who has endured his share mental health struggles, criticism and rumors over the course of the reality show's four seasons, this is a major life milestone.

Since Floribama Shore's premiere in 2017, viewers have witnessed a number of troublesome moments concerning Gus, from his numerous broken limbs and facial scar, to his sprint through the streets of Montana in a tank top. Fans grew worried about Gus, who revealed that the show regularly exploited his "mental health sh*t." However, recent episodes saw a dramatic shift in Gus. He largely got along with everyone (even Jeremiah Buoni), was no longer quick to get angry and shied away from flirting with beautiful women, which used to be his favorite pastime. This was all because of Sami, who he purposely kept out of the spotlight for the first nine months that they were together. He wanted to finally be happy "without strangers trying to ruin it."

On Jan. 23, Gus took to Instagram to unveil an exciting update in his relationship with Sami - they're engaged. While Sami thought they were heading to the beach at Indian Shores, Florida to celebrate their one year anniversary with a romantic wine and charcuterie board picnic, Gus had other ideas. The set of pictures (seen below) features Gus getting down on one knee and the pair smiling ear-to-ear as they embrace this next chapter, the beach and ocean serving as the perfect scenic backdrop. Gus captioned the post, "When I met you on this beach a year ago today, I knew I wanted nothing less but to spend every day I had left with you. I love you forever Sami. Thank you for showing me what true love is #engaged."

Floribama Shore costar Codi Butts commented, "Congratulations!," on the post. Though Gus' other roommates were noticeably absent from the comment section, the outpouring of love and support by fans made up for it. Messages stated that "happiness looks good on you" and that Gus has "come a long way." One follower excitedly noted how Gus is "finally getting the happy ending he deserves." Another informed Gus that he and Sami are "nothing short of perfect for each other."

After years of trying and failing to get along with the rest of the Floribama Shore cast, it seems that Gus put in the work to focus on himself and his own wellbeing, and it's paying off tenfold. He's practically unrecognizable from the man who once upon a time got into an argument on nearly every episode. Fans of Floribama Shore can't wait to see what the future holds for Gus and Sami, especially as wedding planning commences. However, there's a good chance he'll keep most of these details under wraps and off camera, something that's worked well for him this past year.
