Florence Pugh is done filming her role for Marvel's Black Widow. Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially came to a close with the summer's sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, following the dramatic climax that was Avengers: Endgame a couple months earlier. However, Phase 4 will actually start off by going back in time with Black Widow, the long-awaited solo vehicle for Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff. In doing so, the hope is that the movie will provide a fitting farewell to the character, after she sacrificed her life during Endgame.

Directed by Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome) from a script by Ned Benson (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby) and Jac Schaeffer (The Hustle), Black Widow will take place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, as Natasha is forced to confront her past as a former KGB assassin. The film's production is clearly winding down, with costar David Harbour having officially finished shooting his role as Alexei Shostakov (aka. Red Guardian) a week ago. Now, another cast member has wrapped filming too.

Pugh took to social media this week to confirm she's all done on Black Widow. You can check out a screenshot of her post via Florence-Pugh.net, below.

Although it's been rumored for some time, Marvel finally announced that Pugh is playing Yelena Belova in Black Widow back when they unveiled the film's cast at San Diego Comic-Con this year. In the world of Marvel comic books, the character is another assassin and spy who trained in the Red Room (like Natasha), and even allies with Nat after originally being sent to kill her. Story details for Black Widow are (naturally) under-wraps for the time being, so it remains to be seen how Yelena's MCU backstory differs from the one in the comics. However, the Black Widow footage shown at SDCC confirmed that Natasha and Yelena will have at least one close-quarter fight where they try and kill the heck out of one another, before later (presumably) teaming up for the larger mission at hand... whatever it is.

Black Widow is the latest high-profile project that Pugh's worked on in recent years, following her acclaimed turns in films like Lady Macbeth, Fighting with My Family, and this summer's much-discussed horror movie, Midsommar. It's possible the plan is for Pugh to reprise her role as Belova in a future MCU movie or series for Disney+, following her introduction in Shortland's Phase 4 entry. That would certainly make sense, seeing as her star is on the up and up right now. In fact, the movie could even see Natasha pass the Black Widow torch to her "sister" Yelena, now that Johansson's own run in the MCU is over. Failing that, it will be nice to have Pugh appear in at least one big superhero adventure.
