After a successful first season, Kaley Cuoco has a set plan for what her character Cassie Bowden will be doing next in The Flight Attendant season 2. In season 1 of the series, Cassie, a flight attendant, is a reckless alcoholic, carelessly hooking up with strangers, including the passengers on the planes. She flirts with a passenger, Alex (Michiel Huisman), and ends up having a steamy, one-night stand. But when she wakes up the next day, she finds him dead and no memory of what happened.
From here, Cassie embarks on a crazy adventure of solving what she thinks is a murder conspiracy and unearths something much more dangerous in the process. But by the end of The Flight Attendant season 1, she has proven her innocence, cleaned up, and moved to Los Angeles. It also teased a potential future for Cassie with the CIA, leading to speculation The Flight Attendant season 2 could see her joining the covert organization. However, while the CIA is interested in Cassie for their human asset program, Cuoco suggests it won't be that simple in season 2.
After HBO Max announced it had greenlit The Flight Attendant for season 2 and that the next chapter in Cassie’s life would be a “new adventure,” there's been debate over what direction the lead character’s story will take moving forward. As for the chances of Cassie becoming a CIA agent, Kaley Cuoco, in an interview with Deadline, explained The Flight Attendant season 2 wouldn't be making such drastic changes:
“I was very clear when we decided we wanted to do a second season, that I didn’t want Cassie to all of a sudden be like an amazing FBI agent. We are going to be adding in that slight CIA asset on the side. [Cassie] moves to L.A., first year sober, and she makes all the wrong decisions on what you’re not supposed to do when you become sober and she’s going to learn very quickly that it’s not as easy as she thought.”
It will certainly be exciting to see Kaley Cuoco’s Cassie try her hand at a sober and hopefully safe life after spending a majority of the first season either drunk, scrambling to prove her innocence, or fighting off bad guys. But given Cassie’s history till now, it is obvious that her adventure will be more of a misadventure as trouble always tends to find her. As Cuoco said, while it shouldn’t be expected for Cassie to be in the middle of an out-and-out spy thriller, she will definitely be a part of the CIA in some aspect.
It should also be noted that while The Flight Attendant season 1 was entirely based on Chris Bohjalian’s New York Times bestseller of the same name, the author is yet to pen a sequel to his hit novel. This means that if The Flight Attendant season 2 is looking to start production anytime soon, it will need to either collaborate with Bohjalian or create an entirely original story. Hopefully, whatever their approach, the makers of the first season of The Flight Attendant will be able to put together an engaging adventure for the next leg of Cassie's journey.
