'The Flash': First Good Look at Tom Cavanagh as Reverse Flash

The Flash is currently in the middle of a spring hiatus as fans eagerly wait for the concluding chapter in Barry Allen's pursuit of the time travel technology that will allow him to save his mother. The preview for the remaining episodes teased a considerable line-up of bad guys for the Flash to battle; including, the return of Captain Cold and Mark Hamill's reprisal of his role as the Trickster. Ultimately, though, Barry's main focus is tracking down the Reverse Flash, whom he believes was responsible for his mother's murder.

Of course, the audience already knows that it's Barry's supposed friend and mentor Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) inside the yellow suit, but his motivations still remain murky. Everything so far seems to be leading up to a confrontation between Flash and Reverse Flash, but what will the consequences of that battle be?

To tease the upcoming return of The Flash, The CW has just released the first official still that clearly shows Harrison Wells in the Reverse Flash costume. We've seen Wells using his speedster powers out of costume and also seen the Reverse Flash in action, but whenever he stands still he takes care to disguise his face and voice.

Really the only new feature in this shot is the small square of Cavanagh's face in the lower half of the mask, but it's a nice high-res look at the Reverse Flash suit; and Cavanagh definitely has the chin to pull it off. It's essentially a color-reversed version of the suit that Barry wears, with a few added tweaks including the glowing red eyes.

The Reverse Flash has already proven himself to be a formidable opponent for the Flash, but Barry has been pushing himself to greater speeds since his initial showdown with the man in yellow. If they go head-to-head again then things should be a little more even-handed, but what would Barry's discovery that Wells has been inside the suit all along mean for the show's dynamic in season 2? Moreover, what kind of effect could meddling with time travel have on the future of Central City?

Let us know in the comments what you think of Cavanagh in the Reverse Flash suit, and what your predictions are for the rest of the season.

The Flash returns to The CW on March 17th, 2015.
