[SPOILERS for those not caught up on The Flash ahead.]
Ralph Dibny gets a proper Elongated Man costume next week on The Flash TV show. The CW's Arrowverse has always been good at introducing characters from the pages of DC Comics. Some of them appear just for a second, others as main villains, and even more as recurring supporting characters. Team Flash is comprised of quite a few, with Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) aka. Vibe and Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) aka. Killer Frost, being two of Barry Allen's most trusted friends on the TV series.
The Flash season 4 has brought yet another comic book character to life on the small screen, with Hartley Sawyer joining the series as Ralph Dibny. His career trajectory has changed dramatically since he became a part of Team Flash and learned to set aside his past grievances with Barry. He also provides the team with a new set of skills to deploy, and Central City will need them now, given Barry's uncertain future as a superhero. With Flash out of the picture for the time being, Dibny will have to step up and fill his former place - and he will be getting a new costume, to further help the cause.
TVLine released new image from next week's episode of The Flash that offer a first look at Elongated Man's new costume. While it isn't completely comic accurate, the suit does appear to draw some inspiration from the DC Comics version of the character. The black mask has been used by Elongated Man before in the comics, while the suit's color on The Flash appears to be a darker purple or muted red. Elongated Man has sported both purple and red suits in the comics, as it were.
Dibny's new look surely comes from the hands of Cisco, who is no stranger to designing superhero uniforms. Since Ralph is filling in as Central City's big hero until further notice, it only makes sense for him to get a more sophisticated costume than the homemade-looking one he's been wearing thus far. The suit also feels very much in line with the looks of every other superhero costume in the Arrowverse - something that can't be said about Dibny's former attire. Now that he has a brand new outfit, next week's episode will give him a chance to prove that he deserves to wear it.
He isn't going to have to wait long to be challenged and forced to suit up, either. The trailer for next week's episode, "The Elongated Man Rises", reveals that The Trickster (Devon Graye) has made his way back to Central City, and will managed to capture both Caitlin and Cisco at some point. It will be up to Dibny to rescue his friends, though not without a little help, what with him being new at the whole superhero thing. As such, the trailer shows Dibny visiting Barry (Grant Gustin) in jail to discuss his fears of being a crimefighter - fear that will hopefully be able to overcome in time to defeat The Trickster.
The Flash continues with “The Elongated Knight Rises” on The CW at 8 pm on Tuesday, January 23.
