There are only a handful of episodes left in The Flash season 3, which promise to bring something new to the Scarlet Speedster, staring with a musical crossover with Supergirl, and answers to who Savitar really is. And that's not all, as season 3 approaches its end, the producers promise that season 4 won't have Team Flash face off against yet another super speedster.

While the series promises a brand new villain coming next season, there will be plenty of new faces as well, as including one Mad Men actor who will be playing a mysterious new character created for the purpose of the TV series.

As reported by TVLine Anne Dudek will join the series as a recurring character named Tracey Brand. Tracey is described as "a smorgasbord of quirky idiosyncrasies" who will be celebrated in the future for her genius.

The Flash Season 3 Barry Into The Speed Force

Dudek is known for her roles as Dr. Amber Volakis on House and Francine Hanson on Mad Men, as well as more recent work on The Magicians as Prof. Pearl Sunderland. While Tracy is new to the DC Universe, the character could very well be inspired by a pre-existing comic book character or be an amalgam of more than one. Right now there isn't a lot to go on in terms of what The Flash plans to do with the character, so it's difficult to guess whether or not there's a surprise reveal, but a completely new character might be just what the series needs.

It's great to see the Flash family growing, especially with such a well-known and talented actor, although the description may elicit groans from some fans. There is already one quirky blonde genius in the Arrowverse -- Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), and when The Flash introduced the very similar Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten), some felt that she was something of a Felicity-lite for the show. Now there will be yet another smart, quirky blonde joining the ranks in Dudek's Tracy, so hopefully there is something else in the character to break the Felicity mold.

The talk of her 'future greatness' is certainly intriguing, however. As The Flash has always included an element of time travel, might fans see who Tracy is in the future, as well as the present? Another time travel story arc could certainly be fun -- especially if it involves the future, instead of Barry going back to change the past.

The Flash continues Tuesday with 'Duet' @8pm on The CW.
