Starbuck herself, Katee Sackhoff joins The Flash season 4 cast as the villainous Blacksmith in the trailer for 'Girls Night Out'. The episode, which also brings Arrow's Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) back to Central City, primarily revolves around Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris' (Candice Patton) bachelor and bachelorette party shenanigans, ahead of their wedding later this year during the big 2017 Arrowverse crossover, Crisis on Earth-X.
Fan-favorite Sackhoff - whose TV show credentials include roles on Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Rebels - is playing the DC Comics villain Amunet Black aka. Blacksmith on The Flash. A character who can shape and control metal (like her nickname implies), Blacksmith was referenced earlier this season - when it was revealed that Killer Frost had been working for her, before Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) got her metahuman side back under control. It was suggested that the pair weren't exactly on the best of terms, and 'Girls Night Out' will pick up with that plot thread from there.

The 'Girls Night Out' synopsis confirms that Caitlin will receive "an ominous threat from her old boss", complicating what was supposed to be a simple, well, girls night out with Iris, Felicity, and Cecile (Danielle Nicolet). The CW's trailer for the episode only offers a brief glimpse at Blacksmith's metal manipulating powers, as most of the focus is placed on the trouble that Barry and his "boys" get into over the course of their own crazy night out.
The Flash's showrunners have made a concert effort to bring back more of the light-heartedness and comic book-inspired silliness of the show's first two seasons, following what was a comparatively downbeat and thematically dark season that left Barry trapped in the Speed Force indefinitely (before his return in the season 4 premiere). The trailer for 'Girls Night Out' is reflective of that effort, putting its focus on jokes involving Barry getting drunk and Felicity mistaking Blacksmith's minion for a stripper, over the more dramatic elements of the episode. (On a related note: how much alcohol does the Fastest Man Alive need to consume to get plastered like that?)
With The Thinker serving as the main antagonist for The Flash season 4, Sackhoff as Blacksmith should be closer to a baddie of the week (one who could return down the line) than a real threat to Team Flash. The big wild card factor concerning her appearance is Caitlin, whose Killer Frost side seems to come out whenever she's overly stressed or angry (a la The Incredible Hulk). Whereas Caitlin's character arc in season 3 was clearly established early on, the trajectory of her journey this season hasn't been as obvious by comparison. Perhaps Blacksmith's appearance will change that.
The Flash continues Tuesday, November 7 with 'Girls Night Out' on The CW.
