The Speed Force might be the Flash's greatest asset, but its existence may be revealing a real problem with the Justice League. Several incidences have shown the phenomenon to be a serious threat that the team of heroes might be turning a blind eye towards.

While little is understood about the origins of the Speed Force or how it operates, one thing that's for certain is that since he was first exposed to its power, Barry Allen has been one of the fastest things in the DC Universe. In fact, every speedster linked to the power of the Speed Force has been blessed with the ability to defy the laws of physics, and even travel backwards and forwards through time. Barry and the various heroes to wear Flash's lightning bolt insignia are always finding new and amazing applications of the power that the Speed Force bestows.

That said, it seems that there's a little hitch that comes with the Flash's Speed Force, and it may be making him and the entire Justice League culpable in something pretty bad. In The Flash #37 by Robert Venditti, Van Jensen, and Brett Booth, Barry has gotten lost in the Speed Force after helping heal a rupture in the source that threatened all time and space. As a result, he's wound up in a realm known as the Savage Speed Force, a section of the force that's plucked various fauna from all across history in one location. And not only is the Savage Speed Force home to dinosaurs from the past and future, people from different time periods live in this world as well. Even Flash is in awe seeing how many victims have been plucked out of their homes by the speed force.

The Justice League Needs to Confront the Flash

Flash Speed Force Missing People DC Comics

Sadly, this isn’t even the first time the Speed Force has kidnapped innocent people and brought them into the energy source. Just several arcs before this misadventure, a fluctuation in the Speed Force trapped several citizens of Central City for months until Barry realized where they were. The idea that there's a mysterious power that can bend time and space to its will while stealing people seems to be something that would be up the Justice League's alley. But thanks to the Flash's connection to the Speed Force, they may never address it.

Flash is an important member of the League. Thanks to him, they’ve been able to stop the Anti-Monitor, invasions from Darkseid, and a stream of hostile supervillain threats. But Flash is only the hero he is because of the speed granted from the Speed Force, the same one that's been plucking people out of the timestream for who knows how long. If it was any other power, it would likely warrant an investigation and response from the League. But because it helps make Barry the asset he is, the team just doesn't seem that interested in stopping it. If the team is that dependent on Flash, the Justice League might be more corrupt than fans thought.
