New images from The Flash season 7 offer a look at the villain Psych. After nearly a year off the air, the Arrowverse series returned with new episodes earlier this month. The Flash season 7 first dealt with the Mirroverse storyline, which ended unresolved in May 2020 after season 6 was cut short due to the coronavirus. In episode 3, Barry and Iris were able to reason with the Mirror Master, Eva McCulloch, saving Central City from her wrath. Episode 4 thus kicked off the season's first new "Graphic Novel" with the return of Abra Kadabra, as well as a mysterious monster in the hour's final moments.
The Flash has already been renewed for season 8, allowing audiences to enjoy season 7 without worrying it will be the show's last. However, it will mark a transition period for the series and Barry himself. Showrunner Eric Wallace has explained this is the season where viewers will start to see Barry become the legend immortalized in the Flash Museum, saying "his villains then become all the more bigger and more deadly." It's an exciting step for The Flash and makes sense considering how long it's been on the air and the amount of time Barry has been a superhero.
Psych, who will appear in season 7 episode 5, may be the first of those bigger villains. Though viewers got a quick look at him in the promo for the hour, newly released photos show Psych up close. In them, Barry, Cisco, and Killer Frost take on the villain wearing devices likely designed to protect them from his powers. The episode's description explains when Psych "channels and amplifies everyone’s fears in order to wreak havoc on Central City, Barry realizes, with Cecile’s help, that he must face his own worst fear in order to beat this new threat." The images and description suggest Psych will be a particularly difficult villain for Team Flash, especially considering his abilities. In the comics, Psych has telepathic abilities due to the Sage Force. The Flash will likely keep at least part of this story, as the episode's promo teased terrifying hallucinations that will have a major impact on Barry and the rest of the team. It also doesn't help the group is still fresh off their battle with Eva, which tested them like never before.
It's clear The Flash isn't slowing down when it comes to major foes for Barry, Iris, and the rest. This echoes what Wallace said about Barry facing increasingly dangerous enemies in seasons 7 and 8. By now, The Flash has proven himself to be more than capable of fighting off villains with a variety of powers, and there's no reason to think Psych will be any different.
