The Flash has just dropped another direct reference to the Blue Beetle, a major superhero from DC Comics. Each time the character or his company is brought up, The Flash gets one step closer to bringing him to the Arrowverse. The Blue Beetle was originally supposed to be Brandon Routh's Ray Palmer character in Arrow season 3, but at the time DC had other plans for him.

Introduced in Captain Atom #83 in 1966, Ted Kord is a billionaire inventor and the second Blue Beetle. Kord is easily one of the brightest minds in the DC Universe. Unlike other versions of the Blue Beetle who relied on special powers granted to them by a mystical scarab, Kord arms himself with a variety of gadgets and high tech equipment. Blue Beetle is a classic member of the Justice League known for his frequent team-ups with Booster Gold.

In The Flash season 6, episode 3, titled "Dead Men Running", Barry (Grant Gustin) meets Ramsey (Sendil Ramamurthy) and finds out about his interest in dark matter, a storyline which has been building up since the season 6 premiere. Barry becomes suspicious of Ramsey and questions him about how he got his hands on dark matter. According to Ramsey, it came from his "old friend", Ted Kord. However, this is known to be a lie. Regardless, Ted Kord could still be a friend of Ramsey's, and there could be a grain of truth found in Ramsey's claim if it's true that Kord has access to dark matter.

Blue Beetle/Ted Kord in DC comics

Every year, shows like The Flash reveal the existence of key characters from the comics who exist somewhere in the Arrowverse. In just one month, the Arrowverse has already teased Wonder Woman, Riddler, and Mister Miracle. As for Blue Beetle, this is a character whose existence in the Arrowverse has never really been a secret. Though Ted Kord and his company, Kord Industries, have been confirmed for the Arrowverse as early as 2013, the Azure Avenger has never appeared in the flesh.

In a season 1 episode of Arrow, it was mentioned that Ted Kord held a fundraiser that was attended by the Queens. Since then, Arrow and The Flash have strayed away from directly discussing Kord and for the most part have only included references to Kord Industries. It remains to be seen if The Flash (or Arrow) will finally introduce the hero to the Arrowverse. With "Crisis on Infinite Earths" looming, his scientific expertise may be needed.
