The Flash season 9 is set to officially feature a major Supergirl character as Nicoles Maines will be appearing as the superheroine Dreamer. The Arrowverse is facing the end of an era, with The CW officially bringing The Flash to an end with season 9. After running for nearly a decade as the fastest man alive, Grant Gustin is suiting up as Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash, one last time for 13 episodes, making it the shortest season of The CW drama. Gustin will be joined by returning cast members Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Brandon McKnight, Kayla Compton, and Danielle Nicolet.

The Flash season 9 will also feature a beloved Arrowverse heroine in the final season. TV Insider reports that Supergirl veteran Maines, who played Nia Nal, a.k.a. Dreamer, for several seasons on the Melissa Benoist-starring series, is set to appear in one episode of The Flash season 9. The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace gave a statement about Dreamer's guest appearance, which will be a huge storyline for her and Iris West-Allen. According to Wallace, this has been on his personal Arrowverse Bucket List, stating the following:

“As Supergirl fans ourselves, all of us here on The Flash are SUPER-excited to have Nicole join Team Flash for a one-off adventure as we put together our final season. Nicole is a fantastically talented actress, and I’m so happy she’s agreed to be part of a very special Season 9 episode where I get to cross off one of my “Arrowverse Bucket List” team-ups: Having two fantastic reporters — Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) and Nia Nal — investigate their own very bizarre and frightening mystery.”

Maines is thus far the only character from Supergirl that will be showing up in The Flash season 9, with many fans still hoping that the Girl of Steel herself will also show up before the series comes to an end. However, Maines won't be the only major Arrowverse character to swing by Central City for a visit. Batwoman star Javicia Leslie is set to recur in The Flash season 9 as Ryan Wilder, but also a new version of her character. While The CW is only referring to her as "Mystery Character" for the time being, Leslie has been spotted on set wearing a Red Death costume, revealing the Arrowverse is doing a new take on the DC villain.

According to The CW, The Flash season 9, the final season takes place one week after the season 8 finale. While Barry and Iris grow closer in their marriage, "a deadly group of Rogues descends on Central City led by a powerful new threat," who is most likely Red Death herself. However, after the Rogues are defeated, The Flash season 9 synopsis also promises that "a deadly new adversary rises to challenge Barry Allen’s heroic legacy," which will push Team Flash to their ultimate limits as they protect Central City one last time. While no new cast members have been added to the series regulars line-up, Jon Cor's Chillblaine has been upped to full-time cast member after being a recurring guest star since season 7.

Time will tell who else from the Arrowverse shows up in The Flash season 9, but it's evident that the writers are going all out for the swan-song season. Since the new owners behind The CW, Nexstar, are seemingly ending the superhero era on the network, the Arrowverse'e future is looking bleak. That's why The Flash season 9 is the perfect time for the series to use as many Arrowverse characters as they can while still possible. Hopefully, as The Flash season 9 gets closer to its February premiere, a trailer will be released sooner rather than later.
