Stephen Amell and several Arrowverse stars celebrate The Flash's 9-year run, as The CW has confirmed season 9 will be the show's last in 2023. 2022 saw a big shake-up for The CW as the future of the Arrowverse is having has been upended by major changes at the network. As WarnerMedia and Paramount are in the process of selling the majority ownership to Nexstar, several DC TV shows and other CW shows got canceled as a result. For the DC brand, The CW axed Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and the newest arrival, Naomi.

The only Arrowverse dramas that got picked up for another season were The Flash and Superman & Lois for seasons 9 and season 3, respectively. However, both series won't be back until 2023, along with the arrival of the new DC TV series Gotham Knights. For the fall slate, Stargirl season 3 will be the only Arrowverse-adjacent series to air on The CW before the others come back next year. After lots of speculation in the last few months, The Flash season 9 was officially confirmed earlier this week to be the show's final one, with a 13-episode order that will premiere sometime in 2023.

With The Flash season 9 officially set to wrap up the Arrowverse drama, it's certainly the end of an era for the beloved franchise. As Grant Gustin made a public statement about the show concluding, several Arrowverse stars chimed in to congratulate the 32-year-old star. Among those co-stars, the list included Arrow's Stephen Amell, who starred as Green Arrow for 8 years before his series ended in 2020. Several Arrowverse actors that also celebrated The Flash's 9-year legacy included Ruby Rose (Batwoman,) John Wesley Shipp (Jay Garrick,) Tyler Hoechlin (Superman,) Juliana Harkavy (Black Canary,) LaMonica Garrett (The Monitor, Anti-Monitor,) Rick Gonzalez (Wild Dog,) Echo Kellum (Mister Terrific,) Jesse Rath (Brainiac 5,) Nicole Maines (Dreamer,) and Courtney Ford (Nora Darhk.) The Arrowverse actors that also congratulated The Flash's long legacy included multiple key stars from previous seasons, such as Matt Letscher (Reverse-Flash,) Michelle Harrison (Nora Allen,) David Dastmalchian (Abra Kadabra,) Andy Mientus (Pied Piper,) Max Adler (Jaco Birch,), Kate Sackhoff (Amunet Black,) and Daniel Cudmore (Gridlock.) While the Arrowverse still has Superman & Lois and Stargirl as loosely part of the franchise, they each take place on individual Earths. With The Flash season 9 finishing the series in 2023, it will be the last Arrowverse drama from Earth-Prime. Since The CW is winding down on superhero shows in general, it's hard to imagine any further Earth-Prime Arrowverse shows in the foreseeable future unless Warner Bros. TV decides to take it to HBO Max.

It's great to see not just the massive fan reactions but also Arrowverse co-stars celebrating Gustin, as The Flash is now the franchise's longest-running series. Given the tight bond Amell's Oliver Queen and Gustin's Barry Allen had prior to the former's death, it would be great for The Flash season 9 to feature the fallen Green Arrow, whether as a ghost or through flashbacks. Since Oliver died as The Spectre, who returned in the Arrowverse tie-in comic Earth-Prime earlier this year, it wouldn't be shocking if Amell is one of the Arrowverse alums to make a stop on The Flash before everything is said and done.
