Grant Gustin's new costume is revealed in The Flash season 8 images, and it includes the gold boots from the original comics. The Flash premiered on The CW in 2014, making it the second longest-running show in DC's Arrowverse other than Arrow itself. It follows crime scene investigator Barry Allen, who gains superspeed following the explosion of a particle accelerator and vows to protect Central City and track down his mother's killer. The series stars Grant Gustin as The Flash alongside Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L Martin, and Danielle Nicolet.

The Flash season 8 is set to premiere next month. This season of The Flash is set to open with "Armageddon," a five-part event featuring the Justice League villain Despero (Tony Curran), who is typically portrayed in the comics as a three-eyed alien. Rick Cosnett will also be returning to reprise his season 1 role as Eddie Thawne.

At today's DC FanDome 2021, the brand new costume for The Flash in season 8 has been revealed. In addition to finally adding the gold boots from the original comics, there have also been adjustments made to the center crest and wings. Gustin called the boots "the final element that's been missing," and though the suit has gone through many updates throughout the show, this one is "the closest to the many iterations you see in the comic books." Read the full quote and see the images below:

[The boots are] the final element that’s been missing. I’ve loved all the versions of The Flash suit we’ve had on the show, but the suit we have now is the closest to the many iterations you see in the comic books—with the exception of those gold boots! I’ve always felt that those boots would be the final touch.

One thing that was not announced is where the gold boots come from. It is currently unknown if The Flash will be sporting them at the beginning of the season, or if he acquires them at some point during the "Armageddon" arc. The boots don't possess any special powers so there's no reason for acquiring them to be a difficult prospect. However, the show will certainly dedicate a big moment to them to properly honor their long-awaited inclusion.

It's exciting to see The Flash embracing its comic book roots even further with this costume decision. The Flash's gold boots were originally scrapped from the concept art because they were deemed "too cartoony," but now The CW has finally seen fit to reverse their decision. The beloved series is a juggernaut at this point, and is too popular for something as small as boot color to affect the ratings. Now they can stop worrying about skewing away from the broader, more colorful world of the comic books and lean in instead.
