Warner Bros. has celebrated the upcoming release of The Flash season 5 on home media by unveiling an exclusive deleted scene. After first debuting on the inaugural CW show, Arrow, the character of Barry Allen was quickly spun off for adventures of his own. The show later helped produce further spinoffs such as Legends of Tomorrow and the upcoming Batwoman show. As the most consistently rated of all the current Arrowverse spinoffs, the show has comfortably run for five seasons. Filming on season 6 is already underway, with reports confirming Wally West's return. Set photos from the season have already begun to emerge - the first of which reveals the titular hero locked in battle with Godspeed.
Season 5 proved to be an especially emotional time for Barry and Iris. Shortly after defeating The Thinker, Barry Allen and his wife, Iris, were stunned by the arrival of their already grown, speedster daughter from the future, Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy). However, acclimating to their lives as parents wasn't the only challenge they faced, as season 5 pit Team Flash against Central City’s latest scourge - the DC supervillain Cicada (Chris Klein). Not to mention the mysterious agenda of a newly returned Reverse-Flash.
Sent exclusively to Screen Rant by Warner Bros., The Flash season 5 deleted scene comes from early in the season. In episode 4, "All Doll'd Up" the team is forced to deal with an especially creepy villain known as Rag Doll. With the ability to contort and maneuver his body in extremely unique ways, the episode sees him pulling off a series of thefts and attempted murders. Considering himself broken inside, his intentions revolve around trying to have others know his pain by targeting what they love most. In the deleted scene, that desire is illuminated by Rag Doll's mother and previous victim when she relays to Iris what he took from her. Check out the clip below:
The home release comes with a host of other deleted scenes. It also features a gag reel, a featurette on the evolution of Killer Frost, and an inside look at the Elseworlds crossover. The trend of creepy villains and epic crossovers will continue in season 6. The uniquely powered villain Bloodwork will debut to terrorize Central City and the heroes of the Arrowverse will unite to tackle the threat of the Anti-Monitor in an ambitious adaptation of the seminal Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline. An adaptation that will impact the entirety of The Flash season 6.
In terms of the previous season, it's unclear why the above scene was left on the cutting room floor. Most likely, though, is that it was cut for time. It certainly wasn't because of the acting, with both Candice Patton and guest-star Judith Maxie turning in subtle, quietly emotional performances. The scene also ties perfectly, on a thematic level, into the situation Iris is trying to deal with in relation to her own parent-child relationship. Whatever the case regarding its lack of inclusion in the full episode, with season 6 set to premiere in October and the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover set to mark the end of an era, now is the perfect time to catch up or rewatch The Flash season 5.
The Flash: The Complete Fifth Season is available on Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday - August 27 - from Warner Bros Home Entertainment.
