Actress Candice Patton reveals that fans aren't the only ones hoping to hear wedding bells ring for Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris in The Flash's upcoming fourth season. Considering that most comic book fans and even casual TV viewers knew from the very beginning that Iris and Barry were going to end up together, The Flash has done a good job at steadily developing the two characters' relationship over the past three seasons. And with Iris coming into the forefront of The Flash season three's main conflict, her relationship with Barry only became an even more integral part of the show.
Even with the prophecy of Iris' death hanging over both of them as well, the two characters did manage to finally get engaged at the end of the show's musical episode, in one of the season's more memorable moments. But with Barry trapped in the Speed Force at the end of the season, when exactly fans will get to see Barry and Iris actually tie the knot on the show has been an understandably important point of conversation over the past several months.
While recently speaking with Comic Book at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Candice Patton revealed that one of the things she's most hoping for this season, is seeing Iris and Barry get married - whenever the latter is finally freed from the Speed Force:
“Hopefully a wedding. Hopefully there’s marriage bells for Barry and Iris if we can get him out of the Speed Force.”
There's quite a bit of mystery surrounding The Flash's upcoming fourth season, and when considering the ambiguity of the third season's final moments, it's not hard to see why. Even The Flash's official season 4 trailer from SDCC didn't answer most of the questions fans have about the new season, including how and when Barry will be saved from the Speed Force.
But it does feel fair to say that whenever he is, a wedding to Iris won't be too far away from that. The characters are one of the biggest couples in all of the DC Comics, and from the show's first season even, The Flash has been building towards Iris and Barry ending up together. And while Savitar's plan to kill Iris last season may have thrown some of the certainty of that into doubt, Iris' return in the new season has only further reinforced the inevitability of their marriage. Now, the only questions left are when it'll actually happen, and just how long fans will have to wait before Barry reunites with Iris and the rest of his team in the new season.
The Flash season 4 premieres Tuesday, October 10th @ 8pm on The CW.
