Though they've only been a proper couple for a relatively short time, The Flash season 4 will see Barry and Iris tie the knot. In just a few more weeks, the Arrowverse will return to The CW and find its many DC heroes struggling with the new status quo. In Central City, Team Flash will be dealing with the absence of Barry, even as new villains begin to emerge. To deal with things, the team will be recruiting some help, from new hero Elongated Man to the return of Felicity Smoak. Eventually, however, Barry will be back, but that doesn't mean things will be going back to normal.

We've heard a number of times that Barry will be changed when he re-emerges from the Speed Force in The Flash season 4. Luckily, it sounds as if the change will be for the better. Fans have been promised a lighter and more fun season, and we saw hints of that teased in the trailer for the Arrowverse's return. Those in favor of Barry and Iris having a long and happy relationship will also be pleased. Though the future is unclear, Iris is alive and well and Barry will soon be back. When he returns, the Fastest Man Alive won't wait long to make good on his proposal from season 3.

EW spoke with The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg about the future of Barry Allen and Iris West, and he confirmed the two will in fact go through with their nuptials in season 4:

“They are finally going to get married this season and then it’s going to be: Can they stay married with everything that’s coming up against them?”

As Kreisberg hints, just because Barry and Iris are getting married, that doesn't mean things will go well thereafter. After all, this is a superhero show on The CW. That means plenty of trials, tribulations, and handwringing are sure to follow. While fans may be bummed to hear that the Arrowverse won't feature one happy and stable couple outside of Alex and Maggie on Supergirl, the promised lighter tone of The Flash's new season may keep things from getting too bleak.

That said, both Barry and Iris will have a lot on their plate. From saving Central City to hosting guest from other DC TV shows, things will be tricky long before the heroes of the Arrowverse team up for their annual crossover. With that in mind, it's not hard to imagine a wedge or two being driven between Barry and Iris as they strive for their own happily ever after.
