The return of The Flash is only a week away, and fans of the series are gearing up for some major twists in the final five episodes of season 3. When the show went on hiatus for a few weeks, Barry (Grant Gustin) had just decided to try and run into the future to discover the identity of this season's big bad, Savitar. At the same time, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) was seriously injured, and nearly died. Rather than let her go, the team decided to remove the necklace that controls her powers, saving her life but turning her into Killer Frost once more.
When the show returns at the end of the month, Killer Frost in on a rampage, and Barry is headed to 2024 to try and save Iris (Candice Patton). The synopses for the next two episodes have been released already, revealing that Barry does make it into the future in 'The Once And Future Flash', and that Killer Frost is still at large in 'I Know Who You Are'. Now, new set photos have surfaced, and they point to an even bigger twist for the season: the death of a major character.
15 new images have been posted to Just Jared Jr., revealing what looks like a funeral in a future episode of The Flash. The images show the cast in dark, formal clothing (suits and skirts), looking very emotional. Some other images also show the cast laughing and joking around, but this may well be between takes, rather than for scenes that are actually going to be in the show. Not everyone from Team Flash is in the photos, however. Barry, Iris, Joe (Jesse L Martin), Cisco (Carlos Valdes), Julian (Tom Felton), Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale), H.R. (Tom Cavanagh), Jesse (Violett Beane) and even Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) and Gypsy (Jessica Camacho) are in attendance, but Caitlin Snow is markedly absent.
These photos certainly look like all the major players in the show are at a funeral -- which would suggest that the funeral is for an important character. The absence of Caitlin, combined with her recent reversion to evil metahuman Killer Frost, puts her as a likely candidate to die before the season 3 finale. Caitlin could well die in the conflict described in the synopsis for 'I Know Who You Are', or she could even meet further tragedy if she is brought in and returned to her Caitlin state, and then killed by Savitar in the final episodes.
However, this is all speculation, and there is no guarantee that the cast is at a funeral (although this is the most logical explanation) at all, let alone who it is for. Another character missing from the set photos is Cecile (Danielle Nicolet), Joe's girlfriend this season -- although she is less likely to bring out characters like H.R., Jesse and Jay than Caitlin would be. The photos certainly seem to point to Caitlin exiting the show this season, but fans will have to wait and see who (if anyone) actually ends up in the ground.
The Flash returns with 'The Once and Future Flash' on Tuesday, April 25 at 8pm on The CW.
