If there's one actor on The CW who has been given the opportunity to portray a range of characters, it's Tom Cavanagh of The Flash. As of now the actor, who plays Harrison Wells on the series, has technically played 4 different versions of the character if you also include his role of Reverse-Flash as another persona.

In season 1, Harrison Wells actually turned out to be the Flash villain Eobard Thawne in disguise. In that same season we were treated to a flashback that showcased when Thawne traveled back in time to kill Barry Allen as a child, but failed to do so. Since he was unable to return to his future, he decided that he needed to speed up the process of the particle accelerator being created by killing (the real) Harrison Wells and taking his persona. Thawne-as-Wells also acted as The Flash's first major season 1 antagonist, the Reverse-Flash.

In season 2 of The Flash, we were introduced to the fourth version of the character: Harrison Wells from Earth-2, who comes to Barry's Earth to help him stop the evil speedster, Zoom. This version of Wells was not wheelchair-bound, spoke with a raspy voice, and was a lot meaner. At the end of season 2, Wells and his daughter Jesse Quick, decided to return to their Earth.

Now EW is reporting that Cavanagh has weighed in on what kind of effect Flashpoint has on his character in the upcoming season. Since Barry changed the timeline at the conclusion of last season by saving his mother from Reverse-Flash, the original Wells would never be killed by Thawne. So is that who he would be playing this time? Cavanagh said:

“I played the original Wells on the beach with Tess (his wife). This guy won’t be that guy. If the show has strengths, I would argue that we’re not repeating ourselves generally, and specifically I’m trying not to repeat myself.”

While it could be interesting to see Cavanagh play yet another rendition of the character, some might argue that it would be nice if there was some consistency in him playing a version of Harrison Wells for more than a single season. However, based on a new report it appears that we are going to see Earth-2 Harrison Wells again in season 3 after all.

Fans of the show can expect yet another great season of The CW's most popular superhero, filled with plenty of laughs, lovable characters, and awesome moments of heroism by the Scarlet Speedster himself.

The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4 at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13.
