The Flash ended season 2 with a pretty dramatic shake-up, as a grieving Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) recklessly dove into his own past and saved his mother's life, thereby creating a whole new timeline. As the season 3 trailer showed, the future that Barry returns to is one where both his parents are still alive, but many other things have changed: Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) has become the speedster Kid Flash, Eobard Thawne a.k.a. Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) is back in the picture (albeit in a cage), and Iris West (Candice Patton) barely knows who Barry is. Welcome to Flashpoint.

With The Flash's season 3 premiere now just a few weeks away, it won't be long before we find out the full extent of the consequences for Barry's actions, and to tease the upcoming story arc The CW has released the first batch of official stills from "Flashpoint," the first episode of The Flash season 3.

Featured in the images are the newly-alive Nora (Michelle Harrison) and Henry Allen (John Wesley Shipp), Wally West in his Kid Flash costume, Iris and Barry sharing what looks like an emotional moment, and the returning menace of Reverse-Flash. Check them out below, courtesy of TVLine.

The Flash - Flashpoint - Kid Flash

We already know that the Flashpoint story arc (which is based on a limited crossover series from the comic books) won't last all season, but it could have repercussions that echo down the line - not only for The Flash, but also for connected shows like Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. Season 3 will also be packed with speedsters - not only Barry, Kid Flash and Reverse-Flash, but also a villainous new speedster called Savitar, another enemy speedster called the Rival, and - based on recent reports from the set - a speedster version of Jesse Quick.

As if all that wasn't enough to deal with, season 3 will also feature a host of other new villains, including The Top, Mirror Master, and Dr. Alchemy. Oh, and somewhere amid all this Barry will also take time out for a musical crossover episode with Supergirl. It's lucky he's got super-speed on his side, because that's a whole lot of crazy stuff to deal with.

The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
