Barry Allen set a lot of events in motion with his time jump at the end of The Flash's second season. Flashpoint, both the title of season three's premiere and a major plot point for this third season, kicks off right from the very first moment. Barry has inadvertently created a new timeline in which both of his parents are still alive; but the family dynamic that he so desperately wants will likely be endearing and heartbreaking in its brevity.
His parents aren't the only ones who will be appearing on this upcoming season of The Flash. Wentworth Miller makes his return as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, who producers tease will have a key role in another villain's story, Mirror Master (Grey Damon). Other folks sure to stir up trouble for Barry and his S.T.A.R. Labs cohorts include a female version of The Top, Magenta, Dr. Alchemy, as well as returners Gorilla Grodd and likely Zoom as Black Flash. We don't yet know which versions or timelines where these characters will appear, but based on a new promo, time itself could also be against Barry.
TV Promos has shared a new teaser for The Flash aptly titled, "Time Strikes Back." In the clip, we see Barry connect the dots that his jaunt through time has created "a new existence," where nothing is quite as he remembers it. Aside from Henry Allen's presence, Cisco is featured as well, but as a mogul who balks at the idea that he exists somewhere else and isn't rich, citing the occurrence as a "glitch in the universe."
In DC's Flashpoint comic arc, Barry finds himself in a version of Central City where Captain Cold is the most famous hero, and The Flash does not exist. While his presence in this alternate timeline won't last the entire season, fans can definitely expect a permanent ripple effect to be felt across all of the DCTV properties. The longer he stays in this alternate timeline, the more he begins to forget about his actual existence.
It's a plot point that isn't far from one fans may recognize from Supergirl, when Kara was stuck in a dream state thanks to the Black Mercy, where she was able to live out what could have been her life on Krypton. What's it going to take for Barry to finally give up the fantasy world he's (essentially) created and return to his time? Will Central City be the way he left it, or will Barry have a big mess to clean up? With Flashpoint lasting just a few episodes, The Flash season 3 looks primed to hit the ground running.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
