'The Flash' Casts Michael Ironside As Captain Cold's Father

The Flash season 2 casts Michael Ironside

The CW's The Flash appears to be getting ready for a second season sure to please fans of the DC Comics original character, as well as those enthralled by the history of Gran Gustin's Barry Allen as contemporaneously depicted on TV. We already know that the new season is going to include new lightening powers for Barry, who will be joined by the several new characters - including, original Flash, Jay Garrick, in the presumed role of Allen's mentor, so anticipation is already mounting.

A potential plot trajectory for The Flash season two is taking a definite shape in terms of narrative, with further developments regarding characters and casting being revealed. Similarly, there's a certain contingent of super villains slated for significant character development in the episodes ahead, too.

According to THR, Michael Ironside will lend his menacing talents to the role of Lewis Snart, the estranged Snart family patriarch with a personal  history of abusing his children, Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Lisa Snart/Golden Glide (Peyton List). Career criminal Lewis Snart will make his return to Central City after a stint in prison, with plans that could potentially endanger both of his kids. Little is known about Lewis Snart in the comics, beyond the fact that he treated his son in a particularly ruthless manner, forcing the young Leonard to seek shelter with his ice trucker grandfather.

Ironside is set to guest star in episode 203, titled 'Family of Rogues', featured in a season rumored to delve deeply into the mythos of DC Comics' Earth-Two (paving the way for the upcoming Arrow/The Flash spinoff series Legends of Tomorrow at the same time).

The Flash vs the Reverse Flash

Ironside is best known for his roles as a lead heavy in action-adventure fare (Top GunStarship TroopersTotal Recall, etc.), so the Canadian-born actor should able to handle playing the Snart family mob boss with exceptional finesse and personality. Moreover, Ironside is no stranger to the world of comic books either, having done voice-over work in animated versions of DC Comics properties such as Batman, Superman, and Justice League.

So far, it seems that at least certain items on our wish list for The Flash season two are, in fact, going to be arriving in the forthcoming episodes, including the addition of Wally West - though, who's playing him remains a mystery for the time being. Meanwhile, joining Ironside on the list of newcomers to the Arrow/The Flash universe will be Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex) as Jay Garrick; Shantel VanSanten (One Tree Hill) as Patty Spivot, the new detective partner for Joe West (Jesse L. Martin); and some as-yet unannounced actor as one of The Flash season two's villains, Professor Zoom.
