The Flash is casting a new scientist character to join the show's ranks. A spinoff of superhero mainstay ArrowThe Flash premiered back in 2014 and quickly established itself as a solid performer for the CW. When Arrow ends its 8-season run this fall, The Flash will become the longest-running superhero show on the network. It's heading into its sixth season, which premieres on October 8, and is also casting their season 6 villain and is looking for someone male and diverse for the part.

Last season, Barry and the rest of Team Flash battled Cicada, whose mission was to eliminate all metahumans. Barry also dealt with the sudden appearance of his adult daughter Nora, who traveled back from the future to get to know him. Meanwhile, Iris tried to mend fences with Nora after hiding her powers from her in the future, and also started a newspaper, The Central City Chronicle. Also in season 5, Cisco and Ralph helped Caitlin meet her dad and reunite with her mom, while Joe took over for Captain Singh as CCPD Captain. The finale found the team convincing Cicada's niece, Grace, to choose good instead of taking up her uncle's mantle, ultimately causing future Nora to vanish from the timeline.

Per TVLine, the new season 6 character is "a socially awkward, African-American genius in math and science." The character is also "a bit obsessed with aliens and their tech" and will cross paths with Caitlin and Cisco. As of now, the character isn't being called a love interest for Caitlin, though the potential may be there. Out of all the characters on The Flash, Caitlin's been the most unlucky in love. In the show's first season, she believed her fiancé, Ronnie, to be dead, only for him to come back to life and sacrifice himself; and in subsequent seasons, she dated Jay Garrick, who wound up being a villain, and Julian Albert, who ended up leaving the team. In the last two seasons, she's focused on work, as well as her friends and family.

Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover

Heading into the new seasons of The FlashArrow, and the other Arrowverse shows, all eyes are on the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover, which will air over 5 hours and potentially have a huge impact on the Arrowverse as we know it. In addition to Arrow and The FlashSupergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman will all take part. Each of the existing shows teased the crossover in some way during their finales. The Flash did so rather ominously, with the newspaper headline that teased Barry's disappearance since season one, changing its date from 2024 to 2019.

There's no way to know yet if The Flash's new character will play a role in the crossover, though it's a possibility. A character who's a scientist isn't new ground for The Flash, but one who believes in aliens is. Team Flash knows they exist since they've met Supergirl, but the average Central City citizen doesn't. There's a chance that this new scientist not only believes in aliens, but understands them, meaning that he or she could lend valuable advice during the crossover. With both a new villain and the Crisis approaching, Team Flash could use all the help they can get.
