As 2022 draws near, more details about The Flash movie are being revealed. The film will have different versions of classic DC characters, perhaps even alternate versions of the Scarlet Speedster himself. The Flash sees Ezra Miller return as the titular character from his role in Justice League. The movie will be based on the 2011 comic book series Flashpoint, a storyline that was already somewhat explored on CW's The Flash.

Because The Flash is supposed to be an adaptation of Flashpoint, fans assume that the story would involve Barry traveling to alternate dimensions. This could include meeting a Barry Allen that doesn't have super speed, or meeting different versions of the Flash, like the Golden-age era Jay Garrick, Wally West's Kid Flash, or Bart Allen's Impulse. It also allows Barry to interact with DC characters from previous Warner Bros movies, such as Michael Keaton's Batman from Tim Burton's films.

Vanity Fair confirmed Barry will be running to alternate realities, where he will encounter different versions of DC characters. There are several alternate versions of classic heroes that were introduced in the Flashpoint comic. One version of Batman was gritter and more deadly, as he was Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne's father. There is also an alternate version of Wonder Woman and Aquaman, where they are lovers turned enemies, and their societies are always at war.

Michael Keaton as Batman and Ezra Miller as Flash

Little is known about which characters or actors will appear in The Flash, but there are a couple of key figures who are confirmed to make an appearance. As previously mentioned, Micheal Keaton is returning to play Bruce Wayne/Batman for the first time since 1992's Batman Returns. He is said to have a substantial role in the movie, and his appearance ties Tim Burton's Batman films into the DC multiverse. Ben Affleck will also be returning as Batman after dropping out of the solo Batman movie years prior. He will reportedly be playing a significant role in Barry's story, as he provides a sense of familiarity as the Flash goes on his reality-hopping adventure.

A multiverse within DC has already been explored in the CW's Arrowverse. The CW superhero shows explore the concept of a multiverse within the shows relatively often, with characters interacting with each other across their respective shows. However, Ezra Miller recently made an appearance as the DCEU's Flash during the crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths, which marked the first time the TV shows and movies under the DC umbrella acknowledged each other's existence. Miller's appearance could potentially lay the groundwork for more multiverse shenanigans in 2022's The Flash.
