A new behind-the-scenes photo from the set of The Flash shows star Ezra Miller in full motion capture gear with brother/sister directing and producing team Andy and Barbara Muschietti. Slated for release in November this year, the Muschiettis came on board to helm the film in late 2019 after multiple attempts to get the project off the ground. Originally slated for release as far back as 2018, the Miller-led Flash film had cycled through multiple scripts and directors before the duo responsible for the recent two-part adaptation of Stephen King's IT.

After making brief cameo appearances in both of 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, Miller's Barry Allen finally made his proper DCEU debut in 2017's DC team-up film Justice League. Originally Aquaman director James Wan was offered the choice to tackle Miller's solo film but elected instead to take on Jason Momoa's 2018 solo outing as the King of Atlantis. Cycling through a veritable who's who of Hollywood's best-known filmmakers, Warner Bros. had courted everyone from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Rick Famuyiwa, Robert Zemeckis, Matthew Vaughn, John Francis Daley, and Jonathan Goldstein, and even Ben Affleck to take the lead on the project at one point or another. After tapping Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson to pen a new script, Andy and Barbara Muschietti finally signed on, and filming got underway in April last year.

Most recently, producer Barbara Muschietti has taken to Instagram to share a new behind-the-scenes photo of Miller with herself and her brother, taken during the last week of filming in October last year. Suggesting that "there is so much we want to share," Muschietti calls the siblings' work on the film "a great great great adventure." Check out the original post below:

Given the long and problematic road that this DC outing had to travel to make it into production, this latest image will only serve to further ignite fan anticipation for the film's November release. Not only serving as Miller's return to the title role, but The Flash will also see two alternate universe versions of Batman (played by both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton) as well as introduce Supergirl (Sasha Calle). Loosely based on the Flashpoint storyline from the comics, Barry's attempts at time travel in this film are expected to fundamentally disrupt the status quo of the DC Extended Universe moving forward.

Miller's use of motion-capture technology in the film probably comes as little surprise and most likely relates to scenes where his character taps into the Speed Force. While fans of Grant Gustin's version of the character from the Arrowverse TV series are intimately familiar with the workings of the mysterious Speed Force, which lends the character his superhuman speed, the DCEU's version of the Speed Force has yet to have more detailed exploration on screen. Whether or not Andy Muschietti reuses Zack Snyder's original visual take on the power from Justice League remains to be seen, but it is highly likely audiences will learn far more about Allen's powers than previously seen before. DC fans will need to wait until The Flash hits theaters later this year to find out exactly how this translates to the big screen.
