DC's The Flash movie loses Billy Crudup as Henry Allen but casts Spanish actress, Maribel Verdú, to play Barry Allen's mother, Nora. Warner Bros. and DC Films have spent years developing a solo movie for Ezra Miller to star as Flash. After losing and gaining multiple directors, the final creative team for The Flash has been locked in with IT director Andy Muschietti and Bumblebee writer, Christina Hodson.

Ahead of production finally beginning this summer, the studios have been busy locking The Flash's cast into place. It was recently confirmed that Kiersey Clemons is returning as Barry's love interest, Iris West. She was cut out of the theatrical cut of Justice League but will make her debut in Zack Snyder's Justice League. Muschietti also recently made the surprise announcement that Supergirl is appearing in The Flash, with Sasha Calle cast as the Kryptonian hero. She isn't the only DC superhero joining the cast either, as Ben Affleck will return as Batman - and so will Michael Keaton through the power of the multiverse.

The latest casting update for The Flash brings some changes to Barry Allen's personal life. According to THR, Billy Crudup has had to drop out of the DC blockbuster due to scheduling conflicts with Apple+'s The Morning Show. Crudup was set to play Barry's father, Henry Allen, again after his cameo in Justice League, but the studio will presumably look to recast the role now. DC and WB have found a new addition to the Allen family, though, with Spanish actress Maribel Verdú cast as Barry's mother Nora. Fans might recognize Verdú from her work in Alfonso Cuaron’s Y Tu Mama Tambien and Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth.

Fans will likely be disappointed to learn that Crudup is not able to return as Henry Allen for The Flash. He didn't get much screen time in Justice League, but Crudup is a terrific actor, and fans were excited to see him get a larger role in the solo movie. There were also many pointing to his return as one way the DCEU's future will continue to be linked to Zack Snyder's Justice League. While The Flash is now bringing back Clemons' Iris West, it is unfortunate that Crudup's schedule will force WB to recast the role - unless they make the more surprising decision to keep Henry Allen out of the movie entirely.

On the other hand, it is great to know who will play Nora Allen in The Flash. The movie is putting its own twist on the Flashpoint storyline, which revolves around Barry messing up the timeline by going to the past to save his mother from dying. This was done at the hands of Reverse-Flash in the comics, but it remains to be seen if The Flash will utilize Barry's arch-rival in its telling of the story. If it does, then it might not be long before the villain role is filled and another actor joins The Flash's growing ensemble.
