Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan jokes that Michael Keaton stole his role in the upcoming The Flash movie. Ezra Miller's solo DC movie for the Scarlet Speedster is finally moving forward after years of development issues. The film, which is loosely based on the Flashpoint comic story, will be directed by IT's Andy Muscietti and looks to be the beginning of the DC Extended Universe establishing its multiverse.

The idea of The Flash revolving around Flashpoint goes back to previous creative teams, and the possibility of it being adapted has left many wondering if Jeffrey Dean Morgan would reprise his role as Thomas Wayne. In the Flashpoint story, the alternate timeline of the story sees Thomas Wayne become Batman after Bruce is killed as a child instead of his parents. Morgan briefly played Thomas Wayne in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it doesn't appear he'll return in The Flash anymore.

It was recently announced that Michael Keaton would reprise his role as Batman in The Flash, and now Morgan is joking about how Keaton stole his spot. The actor was asked for his thoughts on Keaton returning to the role nearly 30 years later during an interview with ComicBook. He joked that this gig could've been his if it wasn't for Keaton.

"Michael Keaton swooped in and took my gig. Naw, I think that’s super cool. Ever since Zack Snyder walked away, my whole kind of bit in that world has walked away with him. However, there’s always a chat going on. So, we’ll see!"

Morgan appears to be content with missing out on The Flash and possibly seeing his days of being part of the DCEU come to an end. He was brought aboard by Zack Snyder and is aware that the less Snyder is involved in DC's future, the less likely it is that he'll come back as Thomas Wayne. Snyder has given no indication that Morgan will appear in his cut of Justice League either, so it's possible the actor's time as Thomas Wayne will begin and end with Batman v Superman.

Instead of bringing Morgan back for what could've been a prominent role in The Flash and then not use him again, DC's ability to replace him with Keaton could have long-lasting implications. The reported plan is for Keaton's return in The Flash to set up how he can make multiple appearances in future DCEU movies. His possible role has been compared to the mentor role Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the last decade. Since its unlikely that Morgan's Thomas Wayne could take on a similar role, Keaton's involvement is a better decision for The Flash and DC's future - even if it means Morgan might never return.
