Warning: Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9

After ignoring the Jesse Quick mystery for three years, The Flash is finally hinting at her post-Crisis fate. Played by Violett Beane, the daughter of Earth-2’s Harrison Wells was among the first Arrowverse characters to die in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Though not actually featured in the event, Jesse seemingly perished when Earth-2 was erased in Arrow’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” episode.

Earth-Prime was restored after the Crisis, but not everyone in the Arrowverse had a place in the new world Oliver Queen built. Jesse Quick, a once-valued member of Team Flash, was still counted as one of the casualties. It was likely that her absence was owed to the fact that Jesse was the daughter of a pre-Crisis Harrison Wells, whereas Earth-Prime’s version of the character had no children. After the Crisis, Team Flash came to the conclusion that Jesse had died, even though the rebirth of the multiverse had actually created room for her to return.

The Flash Finally Hints Jesse Quick May Still Be Alive

Violett Beane as Jesse Quick on the Flash

Three years after the crossover event, The Flash has finally acknowledged the possibility that Jesse may not be dead after all. In The Flash season 9, episode 9, titled “It’s My Party And I’ll Die If I Want To,” Bloodwork used this very scenario to tempt Wally West into joining him. As Bloodwork said, the multiverse still exists after the Crisis. The villain then pointed out that there could be Earths out there where Jesse still lives. In other words, Oliver may have revived Jesse when he resurrected the multiverse; he just may not have put her on Earth-Prime.

Bloodwork was manipulating Wally, but he’s not wrong about the chances of Jesse still being alive. Since Oliver designated Red Death’s world as Earth-4125, it’s become obvious that the new multiverse is massive just like the original version. Since that’s the case, it’s not hard to imagine Oliver picking at least one of these worlds to serve as a new home for the Arrowverse’s Jesse Quick. She could exist as a doppelganger of the original character, or as a reborn version of the same character that fought beside Team Flash in the show’s second, third, and fourth seasons.

Jesse Quick’s Return Is Unlikely (Even Though It Was Set Up)

Jesse Quick

Through its multiverse reveal and Jesse Quick reference, The Flash essentially laid the groundwork for her to make an additional appearance. And if The Flash season 9 wasn’t the end of the Arrowverse, there would be good reason to suspect that the show will actually make use of this setup. But while it’s not technically impossible that she’ll come back for a secret series finale cameo, the likelihood of The Flash actually paying off this tease isn’t good. Had this reveal happened earlier, the show could have offered a story where Wally went on a multiverse adventure to find her.
