The Flash has introduced a number of DC Comics characters throughout its, so far, two and a half season run. Although certain comic book characters like Killer Frost, Kid Flash, and Vibe have been incorporated in the show's main cast of characters, many others have been used as one-off villains. Falling somewhere in the middle of these extremes are characters like Gorilla Grodd, who was introduced in The Flash pilot and developed throughout season 1 before making a return appearance in season 2. Grodd's season 2 episode ended with the character being transported to Earth-2, where he headed to Gorilla City.

Although Grodd hasn't returned since, last summer The Flash producer Andrew Kreisberg confirmed the hyper-intelligent and psychic gorilla's return in season 3 for a two-part episode. More recently, Grodd voice actor David Sobolov teased the character's return in the second half of season 3. Now we know when exactly The Flash will visit Gorilla City - and who will play the city's leader.

During The CW's visual effects session at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, it was announced the two-part Grodd-focused episodes will be number 13 and 14 of The Flash season 3. Additionally, Keith David (The Thing, Community) will voice Solovar, the leader of Gorilla City in DC Comics.

In the comics, Solovar is the telepathic and morally good leader of Gorilla City, whose only rival is the villainous Grodd. The Flash has largely portrayed Grodd as a morally ambiguous character, someone who has resorted to evil or dangerous means due to his circumstances on Earth-1. When Grodd resurfaced in season 2, kidnapping and mind controlling Caitlin Snow, his goal was to find more hyper-intelligent gorillas like himself - which he undoubtedly did when he arrived at Gorilla City on Earth-2.

However, it's unclear how Grodd's time in Gorilla City has changed him, and it remains to be seen whether he will once again be the villain in his return on The Flash season 3. Nevertheless, since Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Team Flash are expected to head to Gorilla City for the Grodd-centric two-episode arc, fans will get a chance to see how the psychic gorilla has acclimated to his new home.

Considering how well received Grodd has been on The Flash, especially since the visual effects used to depict the character vastly improved for his episode in season 2, it's likely this two-part arc will be highly anticipated by fans of the show. How well the Gorilla City arc is pulled off in The Flash season 3 remains to be seen, but it has potential to be one of the best episodes of the show's current season.
