Warning: Spoilers for The Flash season 8, episode 14, "Funeral For A Friend."

The aftermath of the death of Frost Snow in The Flash season 8, episode 14, "Funeral For A Friend" led to a twist involving Frost's sister, Caitlin, and a mistake that negated the episode's lesson. Most of the episode was devoted to examining how the individual members of Team Flash honored their fallen friend, showing that there are many ways to grieve a loved one and move on. Yet despite giving a touching eulogy for her younger sister, Caitlin was jarringly shown to have rejected this lesson and moved forward with a plan to bring Frost back to life in the episode's final scene.

Originally known as Killer Frost, Frost took on a life of her own in The Flash season 7 after she and Caitlin were separated into two distinct beings by the twisted technology of the Mirror Monarch after a lifetime of sharing a body. Working as an aspiring artist when she wasn't a superhero, Frost took her duties as a hero seriously, extending her life-long mission to protect her sister to encompass her found family in Team Flash and the whole of Central City. This led to Frost taking the lead in the team's efforts to investigate the Cold-Fusion Killer, ultimately sacrificing her life to stop the murderous rampage of the villain Deathstorm once and for all.

The Flash season 8, episode 14, "Funeral For A Friend," largely focused on how each member of Team Flash coped with Frost's passing, with most of them resolving to find some way to honor who Frost was with their work so that her memory would live on, such as Iris West-Allen devoting an episode of her podcast to interviewing people whom Frost had helped. Caitlin spent most of the episode grieving on her own and refusing to go to Frost's funeral, saying that "if I see her in that casket... I'll know that she's gone for good." Caitlin ultimately did attend the funeral, wearing blue instead of black in honor of Frost, and delivered a touching speech in which she promised to "keep you alive, Frost." These words took on an ironic resonance and set up a twist regarding Caitlin and Frost in the episode's final scene, which showed that Caitlin had rejected the episode's lesson regarding the importance of grieving and accepting death - completely missing the point of "Funeral For A Friend." Devoting an entire episode towards honoring Frost's life only to end it by suggesting that her heroic death might be easily undone made the entire storyline seem like empty filler and undercut an otherwise poignant narrative for The Flash season 8.

The Flash Chillblaine Discovers Caitlin's Secret Lab

The final scene of The Flash episode "Funeral For A Friend" found Caitlin reaching out to Frost's boyfriend Mark "Chillblaine" Baine (Jon Cor), a reformed thief specializing in high-tech heists. Chillblaine was surprised by the invitation to come to the apartment Caitlin and Frost had shared, knowing that Caitlin had never approved of him. He was further astonished to discover that Caitlin was carrying a genome sequencer she claimed to have "borrowed" and that Caitlin had transformed the apartment into a laboratory. The episode ended with Caitlin revealing that she had a lock of Frost's hair and was quite literal about her intentions to keep Frost alive, asking the reformed Mark Blaine/Chillblaine to help her get the rest of the gear she needed to try and resurrect Frost.

This development seemed wildly out of character for Caitlin, who was usually the voice of reason on Team Flash and a paragon of medical ethics. It might have been more believable for Chillblaine to come up with the idea of stealing the technology to resurrect Frost, given his regret that he never told his "Snowflake" that he truly loved her. However, regardless of who came up with the plan, this twist that Caitlin will attempt to bring Frost back to life somehow completely undercut the power of the message of The Flash episode "Funeral For A Friend."
