Ezra Miller and Grant Gustin - from Warner Bros, The Flash movie and The Flash TV show, respectively - are the latest celebrity pair to undergo the Face Mash treatment, creating what some consider to be a near-perfect version of the DC stalwart and fan-favorite hero Barry Allen.

Miller was last seen halting the destructive machinations of Steppenwolf as one of the better and more lighthearted elements of Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon’s Justice League. Meanwhile Gustin was confronted by his future daughter, Nora, on CW’s The Flash, after saving the world from Clifford DeVoe, aka The Thinker. Both iterations have garnered their share of fans and critical acclaim over the years, going almost as far as to create a divide, with many wishing the DCEU had followed a model more akin to the MCU, wherein the TV and movie universes could intersect and perhaps even overlap. Thus allowing Gustin to serve as the definitive on-screen iteration. In 2014, Arrow star Stephen Amell even weighed in about the movie Flash, stating that he felt like “it should be Grant [Gustin] doing the movie.”

Reddit user toymanjr31, however, believes that only by blending them together will fans get the true version of The Flash they deserve. Though some argue that the character still lacks the distinctive blonde hair that would make it a pure adaptation of Barry Allen, and others declare it a creepy reflection of a young Luke Perry, there’s no denying that the combination of the two strikes a compelling and memorable image. And, perhaps, in one of the infinite amount of parallel universes that DC has become synonymous with, this version of The Flash may exist somewhere.

DC and Warner Bros. appear, however, to be racing along with the belief that two heads are better than one. The CW network has already renewed the show for a fifth season, promoting Danielle Nicolet and Hartley Sawyer to regulars as District Attorney Cecile Horton and Ralph Dibney/Elongated Man, respectively.

Simultaneously, Warner Bros. is gearing up to start production on a solo big screen outing for the Scarlet Speedster directed by Spider-Man: Homecoming writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, with filming reportedly set for 2019.

Either way, whichever side of the fence fans sit on, and no matter which Barry Allen is considered the best and most definitive, there appears to be no shortage of lightning fast action and adventure in the coming years.
