Thought this is a new costume for Irey, this isn't the first time she's worn a superhero costume in DC history. Wally West's family originates in the pre-Flashpoint universe, where both Irey and her twin brother Jai both had superpowers. Irey was a classic speedster, like her father and much of her extended family. She briefly took on the name Impulse and wore a costume that looked much like Bart Allen's, the original Impulse. Though the New 52 era erased Irey, Jai, and even Wally West himself from history, the Infinite Frontier era has completely restored Wally, his children, and his marriage to Linda Park. Irey has been clamoring to be more involved in the hero life, and it looks like she'll get her wish in "One Minute War."

The Flash's Daughter Irey West Deserves Her New Costume

Irey West in a Red and Gold Costume Crouching to Run with the Flash

This is a long-awaited and exciting development for Irey and the whole West family. The Flash has been one of DC's most consistently fun books, and that's partly because of how much the story focuses on Wally West's family life—especially Irey and her developing powers. Though fans don't yet know what her new codename will be, it's likely she'll be getting something brand new, as both Impulse and Kid Flash are currently taken.

Irey is a bright light in DC's current line up, and she completely deserves this new costume and a superhero codename to call her own. The "One Minute War" promises to shake up a lot in the Flash's corner of the DC Universe—this particular and exciting change for Wally West's daughter is only the beginning.
