Warning, this article contains spoilers for Future State: The Flash #2.

The Flash has finally encountered a problem that he cannot outrun. He may be able to use his speed to beat villains, but the Flash can't fix his family. In DC's Future State Barry Allen's worst nightmare has materialized. His ward, the more powerful Wally West, has become evil. Barry's former sidekick became so corrupted that he stole the speed of multiple members of The Flash Family including the Scarlet Speedster himself.

Barry Allen found himself obligated to teach Wally West the ways of the speed force after Wally met with the same accident that granted Barry his powers. He trained Wally to the best of his ability and Wally eventually surpassed his teacher as The Flash. Wally played a pivotal role in the Dark Nights: Death Metal saga because of his incredible abilities. Multiple comics have hinted at Wally's dominance and Flash has even admitted it himself. Fast-forward to DC's Future State and the undisputed king of speedsters in now The Flash Family's fiercest enemy.

Wally's new transition has made him the most fearsome enemy The Flash Family has ever faced. He has killed his cousin Wallace. He has stolen the speed of other speedsters. Wally is beyond saving to every other member of The Flash Family. Every member except Barry, who feels there is still hope for his former protege. Since Barry is without his speed he decides to rely on his science and technology knowledge to give him a fighting chance against Wally. Thankfully Barry isn't the first to try and stop a Flash. In The Flash: Future State #2 by Brandon Vietti, Will Conrad, and Brandon Peterson, The Flash battles his pupil without his speed.

Barry Allen has faced incredible challenges in his career as The Flash. Teaching Wally West to control his speed was one of the most difficult responsibilities Barry had. Now, without his speed, Barry must subdue his former sidekick to save him. Barry equips himself with the weapons of his greatest foes including Captain Cold, Captain Boomerang, The Trickster, The Thinker, Weather Wizard, and many more. Barry's plan is to use the weapons of his gallery of rogues combined with his knowledge of science to stop Wally because the combined might of his villains were the only thing that ever posed a threat to The Fastest Man Alive.

The scourge of Central City's villains' tech is ironically the only thing standing between Wally West and complete dominance. Barry Allen will once again go against impossible odds to save the ones he loves despite his minimal chances of success. Barry's science and villain tech enable an epic battle against Wally and the evil that hides within. In DC's Future State, even The Flash equipped with the tech of his greatest foes is not fast enough to save Wally West.
