The Suicide Squad star Jai Courtney is interested in a DC Extended Universe movie with Captain Boomerang and The Flash. The actor made his debut as George "Digger" Harkness/Captain Boomerang in 2016's Suicide Squad. He'll reprise his role in James Gunn's follow up film, currently set to release next summer. Courtney is one of a few actors from the first movie to return. He'll be joined by Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis, as well as the film's many new stars. It's shaping up to be an exciting movie, with a look at The Suicide Squad's characters revealed during DC FanDome.

As more information comes out about the upcoming film, some are looking back at the first. Suicide Squad featured a cameo by Ezra Miller, the DCEU's Flash. Though brief, it helped set up his larger role in Justice League. Coming off of that, Miller will star in the long-awaited The Flash solo movie in 2022. It's become one of the most highly anticipated DCEU films, as it will feature both Ben Affleck's Batman and Michael Keaton's, exploring the concept of the multiverse in an exciting way. However, some are already thinking about the future of The Flash in the DCEU beyond that movie.

Speaking with Screen Rant about his film Honest Thief, Courtney revealed he's interested in a movie with Miller's Flash following their time in Suicide Squad:

I talked to your co-star for another film last week, Joel Kinnaman, and you're ready to make your second appearance in DCU. However, your true adversary in that franchise is The Flash. Any chance we can see you re-team with The Flash as you did in that little teaser in the first Suicide Squad?

Courtney: I hope so, man. I hope so. People higher up than me make those decisions, but I think the fans would love that. Who knows, man? Who knows the shape of how things are gonna go. I think there's a ton of properties being made, and they're tackling some great success now coming DC's way. I think they're making some really good moves. So, we'll see. That'd be awesome. If it was up to me, I'd have that thing in development already. But we'll see how we go.

Suicide Squad Roll Call Jai Courtney Captain Boomerang

Considering the relationship between Flash and Captain Boomerang, a movie focused on the two of them would be exciting. What's more, Suicide Squad had a lot of untapped potential with the characters, due to the brief nature of Miller's appearance. An entire film devoted to Flash and Captain Boomerang would offer far more opportunity to explore their complex dynamic.

As Courtney notes, DC currently has a lot of projects in the works. However, that doesn't mean a Flash/Captain Boomerang film won't happen eventually. Both DC and WB remain committed to the Suicide Squad as an entity, as is evidenced by the upcoming film in the franchise. There's even a spinoff show on the way at HBO Max that will focus on John Cena's Peacemaker. Additionally, other characters from The Suicide Squad will appear on the series, proving WarnerMedia is still interested in them. Add in the current interest in The Flash thanks to his solo film, and it wouldn't be too surprising for Captain Boomerang to join him another movie. Even if the idea doesn't come to fruition right away, Courtney's enthusiasm doesn't hurt.
