Flappy Bird is making a return to the app store with a new game set in the Battle Royale genre. Many may recall that Flappy Bird was a mobile game that took the world by storm several years ago, creating ample fan support before eventually being taken down. The game later returned with multiplayer and has continued on as a free-to-play mobile title ever since. The premise is simple enough, as players are tasked with simply tapping the screen to make the bird flap, as they weave through pipes that look suspiciously like the ones in Super Mario.

The popularity also created a number of copies and parodies, many of which utilized the "Flappy" title as a means of tying it to the popular mobile game. Even Goat Simulator has provided its take on Flappy Bird within the confines of the game, making for one of the most difficult sections in that game. Now, a new take on the game from a different developer has arrived, and it makes for some goofy fun.

Flappy Royale is a new game for that has entered beta for iOS, Android, and PC through FlappyRoyale.io. According to the official site, the game was designed by Orta Therox, Em Lazer-Walker, and Zach Gage. While they aren't the original developers behind Flappy Bird (that honor goes to programmer Dong Nguyen who owns studio dotGears), Flappy Royale is actually an enjoyable take on the mobile title.

As one might expect, the game features 100 characters on-screen at the same time, as they're tasked with outliving the other players that are present as ghostly apparitions. Players will even have to flap off of a bus before the first pipe takes them out, adding a rather satirical take on what's present in Fortnite. It's hard to say how long the game will last, but it's an enjoyable take for anyone that wants to get a few games in at their leisure. Plus, there are customization options to help users attempt to make their birds stand out among a sea of others.

The Battle Royale genre has been a boon after the success of several core games in the genre. This has led to ample takes on the genre appearing, with everything from a Tetris game built around Battle Royale to brand new games like Fall Guys - both of which are a lot of fun. Odds are that more will follow, but Flappy Royale is a fun alternative in the meantime.
