Fixer Upper’s Chip Gaines teases that a sixth baby could be a possibility in the future, however, his wife Joanna’s is on the fence about the idea of growing their already large family. The HGTV stars already have five children together, but to Chip it's the more the merrier.
Fixer Upper showcases Chip and Joanna as they own and operate Magnolia Homes - their remodeling and design business in Waco, Texas. The HGTV show documents the process by which the couple revitalizes neighborhoods throughout central Texas as they turn run-down but potential-rich houses into dream homes. Husband Chip is the head contractor and manages the construction and realty side of Magnolia, while wife Joanna is the lead designer. They show potential buyers three homes in which they can choose from and encourage them to look beyond the blemishes and envision the property after a renovation. Chip and Joanna's teamwork is unmatched as they work together on-screen as business partners for Magnolia Homes and off-screen as parents to their five children. At the end of the 5th and final season of Fixer Upper, the couple had baby number five, Crew Gaines, who is now 24-months-old. The older four children are Drake, 16, Ella, 12, Duke, 11, and Emmie, 9.
Even though it seems that the couple already has their hands full when it comes to raising their five children and running their business, Chip is considering the idea of adding another child to the Gaines family. He explained back in 2017 to Us that he would like to have more children with his wife Joanna, but felt like Fixer Upper was the priority but now that the show had wrapped, they could get back to making babies. On September 6th, Chris joked about the idea of growing their family some more. He said, "There’s a running joke with the people that run in our circles where any time things are going well between Joanna and I, at the end of that statement, I’ll sarcastically say - used to be sarcastically - 'No. 5, No. 5.'" He continued, "Well, now we’ve got five children. So now, sarcastically, I would say, ‘No. 6, No. 6,’ when things were going well."
Joanna opened up on Instagram (via Us) about how they manage to balance family and her career. She wrote about how the key to it is communication. She writes "I explain that I have to work just like they have to go to school." She said that she would explain to their kids what exactly that her and Chip would be doing for the day and by "taking a few seconds to let them in on this other huge part of my life has really helped them understand that Mom and Dad have a big job to do."
It seems that this power couple, who have proven that they are a solid husband-wife duo on screen, has what it takes to add another family member to the bunch. Who knows, fans could expect some baby news from the Fixer Upper duo in the future. Now that they don't have the show to worry about, they can get started making Gaines baby number six.
