A Five Nights at Freddy's behind-the-scenes photo teases Matthew Lillard's preparation for the role of the primary villain. The Five Nights at Freddy's franchise – which started with the video game of the same name created by Scott Cawthon in 2014 and now spans several spinoffs, books, and board games – will be expanding with a feature film released in the next year or so. The Five Nights at Freddy's movie has cast Scream's Matthew Lillard as William Afton, who serves as the main antagonist of the franchise.

The Five Nights at Freddy's movie started filming with a behind-the-scenes photo earlier this month and now, another BTS photo shared by Matthew Lillard is teasing the actor's villain preparation.

Shared on Instagram, the photo is simply a selfie taken by Lillard before any makeup or prosthetics have been applied, with a caption indicating he is only on day one of prep. Check out the post above.

As the new BTS photo teases, Lillard will be playing the role of William Afton in the Five Nights at Freddy's movie. The photo was taken before any makeup or prosthetics have been applied, though much work will likely be required for the actor to transform into the role. In the games, the main antagonist is generally depicted as a slender humanoid of various shades of purple, which Lillard teases in his post with a hashtag. His character will certainly be a sight to see once the makeup and prosthetics are finished.

Along with Lillard as Afton, the Five Nights at Freddy's movie cast also includes The Hunger Games alum Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, the night shift security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and the playable character in the first game. The cast also includes Mary Stuart Masterson as an undisclosed villain and Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, Mike's sister. There are no official plot details for the Five Nights at Freddy's movie, though it will likely adapt the events of the first game.

The Five Nights at Freddy's movie is helmed by Emma Tammi with a screenplay co-written by the director, Cawthon, and Seth Cuddeback. The video game adaptation is produced by Jason Blum, who has been behind a number of successful horror franchises from Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge. After several years in development hell, the Five Nights at Freddy's movie is finally making progress, and it should be exciting to track its filming progress.
