Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Avengers #63

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Avengers, the first human host of the Phoenix Force is returning to Earth to save Earth's Mightiest Heroes of the past and present. Originally known as Firehair, the Phoenix chose this woman of the Stone Age to be its first host of Earth-616, one of the world's first heroes who in turn assembled the very first team of Ancient Avengers. While the First Phoenix was eventually forced to leave Earth, she hears the call in this new issue to become the much-needed calvary.

In the new Avengers #63 from Jason Aaron and Javier Garrón, "The Battle of One Million BC" has begun, the second chapter of the overarching Avengers Assemble event which also includes Aaron's Avengers Forever series. Currently, the Avengers of the modern era have finally found their ancestors in the past and joined forces. As such, both teams are standing together to face the Multiversal Masters of Evil, and the issue features losses on both sides. However, the end of the issue confirms the return of the Phoenix who was forced to leave Earth shortly after the birth of Thor.

Marvel's Prehistoric Phoenix Will Finally Reunite With Thor (Her Son)

First Phoenix Returns To Save Avengers

After the First Phoenix had assembled the Ancient Avengers, she and Odin eventually became romantically involved. However, the Phoenix was unwilling to commit and become Odin's wife, embarrassing the All-Father when he attempted to gift her with a surprise wedding. That being said, the Phoenix was instrumental in Thor's birth, saving him from Frost Giants after Gaea delivered him by imbuing him with the fires of the Phoenix Force itself. As such, the First Phoenix is effectively Thor's secret mother whom the God of Thunder has only recently learned about.

While her actions angered stubborn Odin and resulted in the Phoenix keeping her distance from Earth, Thor's arrival in the past with his Avengers of the modern era has motivated her to finally return. As such, it's going to be very exciting to see how Thor will react to his mother in future issues. After all, he's certainly been grappling with this shocking new addition to his family tree for quite some time in the Marvel Universe.

Having lost the ancient Starbrand and Ghost-Rider, it's clear that the First Phoenix's return will be coming just in time as some pretty powerful backup. It will also be the perfect opportunity for the Phoenix to finally reunite with her son for the first time since he was born. Avengers #63 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
