George Clooney’s adaptation of Joseph Heller’s novel Catch-22 is on its way to Hulu in 2019, and the streaming service has offered up a collection of first-look images to potential viewers. The six-episode limited series is another example of where television is headed in this era of Peak TV. As has been the case with the likes of Netflix’s Maniac, Amazon’s Homecoming, or Showtime’s Escape at Dannemora, Catch-22 offers filmmakers and performers alike a chance to tackle some interesting, sometimes challenging material without having to be a blockbuster film with the mega-sized budget to match. The result, then, is some very interesting filmmaking going on in TV, and it looks as though Catch-22 may continue that trend,

The increased interest in limited tv series or miniseries is a boon to audiences as well, as they’re treated not only to some terrific filmmaking, but also to the sort of ensembles that would have, just a few years ago, been reason enough to buy a ticket to the theater. That’s true of Catch-22, which goes the Ocean’s 11 route by bringing Clooney together with some top-not talent, like Kyle Chandler, Hugh Laurie, Giancarlo Giannini, and Christopher Abbott.

Though filming has been going on for some time, and Chandler was brought in to fill Clooney’s shoes when he left the role of Colonel Cathcart to play Scheisskopf, little has been seen of the upcoming event series. Now, though, Hulu has shared a handful of first-look images that show the actors looking the part. Check out the images and read a synopsis of the series below:

“Based on Joseph Heller’s seminal novel of the same name, Catch-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a US Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of peoplehe has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule which specifies that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind; a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and therefore makes him ineligible to be relieved from duty.”

While a trailer will hopefully be released sometime soon, the new images do sell the event series on star power. Clooney in particular seems as though he’s deep in character, while Laurie has a certain smug quality as Major de Coverley. In all, it’s a tempting glimpse at one of Hulu’s most anticipated offerings in 2019.
