Certain Pokémon look their type. People could take a look at Typhlosion and immediately know it is a Fiery beast. Same with mons like Floatzel or Tangela, their designs and attributes are specific to their typing, whether it's a floatation device around their necks or a body covered in vines.

Then there are those Pokémon that look like they belong to a completely different type. Of course, it has to do with each individual's opinion, but there's a consensus about how some Pokémon make more sense in a different type or even types. Fire mons don't usually have this issue, but there are certainly some that fit the bill.

Litleo

A roaring Litleo in the Pokémon anime

Litleo is the pre-evolution of the majestic and clearly fiery Pyroar. It has all the qualities of a baby Pokémon, despite not being one, and definitely ranks as one of the cutest Fire-types. However, these same attributes work against it when it comes to belonging to the Fire-type.

For starters, Litleo has no flames coming out of any part of its body. Looking at it, Normal would be the first choice most people would come up with when trying to guess its typing. Indeed, Litleo has Normal as a secondary type. Perhaps the designers should've made him a pure Normal-type that gained the Fire-type upon evolution.

Oricorio

Baile Style Oriciorio Smelling a flower in the Pokémon anime

One of those Pokémon that changes forms and types after exposure to a specific item, Oricorio becomes Fire/Flying using a Red Nectar. Its body turns red with black stripes, assumes a traditional Flamenco position, and small white lines appear on the side of its head resembling hoop earrings.

There's nothing wrong with the design, but it doesn't look fiery enough. Baile Style Ororio could pass for a Fighting or even Dark-type thanks to its color scheme. A Dark/Flying bird would also be far more interesting than Fire/Flying. especially considering Talonflame was such a staple of the previous generation.

Salazzle

Salazzle Pokemon in Ultra Space

Introduced in Generation VII, Salazzle is a dual-type Poison/Fire Pokémon. It is an entirely female species, known for its dominant and haughty nature. Salazzle is a popular Pokémon for female NPCs in the games. Oleana, for example, uses one in her battle atop Rose Tower in Pokémon Sword & Shield.

Salazzle's design makes it look more Poison/Dark than Poison/Fire. Indeed, it can naturally learn almost as many Dark-type moves as Fire-types. It's therefore confusing why the developers didn't give this alluring Pokémon the Dark-type, considering it ticks all the boxes.

Turtonator

Turtonator from Pokemon Sun and Moon

Also introduced in Generation VII, Turtonator is a dual-type Fire/Dragon Pokémon. One of the few Dragon-types that is neither a Legendary nor Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon, Turtonator is still quite inaccessible for most of Pokémon Sun & Moon.

Turtonator does look like a Fire-type, it just doesn't look like a Dragon. When looking at it, some might think it's actually a Rock-type, thanks to its prominent and spiky shell. Its greyish color scheme also makes it look like a boulder, making the Rock connection even stronger.

Torkoal

A wild Torkoal blinks in the Pokémon anime

Torkoal is a rather forgettable Pokémon. it doesn't evolve from or into any other Pokémon and it isn't exactly a standout of the Hoenn region. It has very high defense, but low speed, meaning it isn't used as much as some of the other Gen III stars.

Torkoal definitely looks like a Fire-type, but it also looks very Rock-like. Like Turtonator before it, Torkoal's shell is too prominent to ignore. If it wasn't for the smoke that comes out of it, most people would probably mistake it for a pure Rock-type.

Incineroar

Incineroar standing against a white background.

Alola's Fire Starter, Incineroar is a muscular and bipedal Pokémon with far too many human traits. Known for its tough and aggressive exterior, Incineroar actually enjoys the company of children and trainers and relishes the praise they give it.

Considering the inspiration behind its design are professional wrestlers, Incineroar should definitely be a Fighting-type. Dark also makes sense, considering its raging design and attitude, so a Fighting/Dark combo seems like the most logical choice.

Victini

Still of Victini in the 14th Pokémon anime movie

Victini is a dual-type Psychic/Fire Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It remains a mystery, thanks to its few appearances in both the games and the anime. It was the star of its own movie, like many other Mythical Pokémon, but has yet to return in a prominent capacity.

Like the rest of Pikachu clones over the generations, Victini looks more Electric than Psychic or Fire. The former could make sense, considering Psychic doesn't have a defined set of physical traits, but the latter is near inexcusable. With the benefit of hindsight, it becomes clear that Victini should be Psychic/Electric.

Entei

Entei Pokemon

Legendary Pokémon have some of the best designs and lore in the entire franchise and Entei is no exception. A pure Fire-type introduced in Generation II, Entei represents the fire that burned down Ecruteak City's Brass Tower. Johto lore states that Entei was an ordinary Pokémon that perished in the fire, revived by Ho-Oh as a Legendary.

Design-wise, Entei seems less Fire and more Ground-type. The brown and warm color scheme definitely reinforces the earthy vibe it has. Steel would also be fitting and the idea of a dual-type Ground/Steel Legendary Pokémon is almost too good to pass.

Blacephalon

Ultra Beasts first appeared in Generation VII and immediately became divisive. Some liked their daring and unconventional designs while others complained about how they didn't look like regular Pokémon. According to the games, they aren't regular Pokémon, so their crazy designs make sense.

Blacephalon is one of eleven Ultra Beasts, a dual-type Fire/Ghost creature that resembles a clown. It looks nothing like a Fire or Ghost Pokémon, instead resembling a Psychic-type. It's a true mystery why the game developers chose to give it two types it looks nothing like, and Blacephalon sticks out like a sore thumb among the other Fire-types.

Charizard

Charizard flying through the air in Pokemon

One of the most well-known and beloved Pokémon in the franchise by far, Charizard's popularity is still at an all-time high, twenty-five years since its introduction. It is Kanto's Firestarter and one of, if not the strongest Pokémon in Ash's team.

For years, fans complained about Charizard not being a Dragon-type. Indeed, it has all the characteristics of a Dragon. Game Freak finally resolved this by giving it the secondary Dragon-type upon Mega Evolving, but the fact that it remains Fire/Flying in its regular form is still a tad insulting.
