Fans of Fire Emblem Heroes have one last thing to celebrate before the end of the year as Nintendo has announced that a set of new special heroes have been added to the game to ring in 2021. Popular gacha games like Fire Emblem Heroes tend to have special events during important times of the year, like Christmas and New Year, apart from their own self-scheduled special events. These occasions give the developers an opportunity to release special characters, items, and activities to keep players regularly engaged.

Fire Emblem Heroes is one of the more popular gacha games, both in Japan and around the world, making it one of Nintendo’s most successful mobile games. The game’s popularity is primarily due to its constantly growing cast of loved characters, regular events, and enjoyable game mechanics. Much like many other successful gacha games, the popularity of the Fire Emblem series and its characters encourage players to spend real money to get a better chance to acquire their favorite heroes in the game, which is a big contributor to making the game financially successful.

The new special characters that are being added for the “New Year: ω Special Heroes” summoning focus were introduced with an announcement trailer from Nintendo. The video shows off the eight of the special characters that players will get a chance to add to their personal rosters during the event, with all of them sporting colorful kimonos. While some of the characters come from other Fire Emblem titles, such as Fire Emblem Fates, the others are native to Fire Emblem Heroes.

The special kimono-clad characters that players will be added with the new event include Refreshed Kitsune Kaden and Renewed Wolfpup Velouria from Fire Emblem Fates as well as Temptation Anew Plumeria and Álfar Dream Duo Peony. Interestingly, Álfar Dream Duo Peony isn’t a singular character but is actually a unit that features two popular characters from the game, namely Peony and Triandra. The special characters from last year’s new year event are also making a return including Wealth-Wisher Anna, New Year’s Spirit Selkie, New Year’s Claw Lethe, and Askran Duo Alfonse. Apart from the new characters, the event will also introduce a new prologue story called “Beyond Dreaming” that players will be able to experience.

It’s always interesting to see what special character and character variants developers of gacha games like Fire Emblem Heroes release for special events, especially considering how good the designs and art for them usually are, and definitely gives fans of the game something to chase for apart from the game’s regular roster.
