Combining Tinder and Spotify, users will get Makromusic. Dating is hard, especially in the day and age of internet matchmaking. However, online dating platforms are finding new ways to stand out. The best way to do that is by offering a new way to connect individuals. Many focus on personality, but Makromusic identifies individuals' shared tastes in music.

Developed by university students, Makromusic matches two individuals who may be listening to the same song or has similar favorite tracks or artists. The platform uncovers the user's music preferences by accessing a Spotify or Apple Music account. From there, the app will help the user find their 'Music Buddy' or partner.

To use Makromusic, start by signing in with Spotify. The platform will request authorization for the user's Spotify account. Once permissions are granted, follow the rest of the signup process. When the account is set up, and on the home page, tap 'Quick Match,' and Makromusic will automatically start music from the Spotify account and match to other people listening. Tap 'Matches' at the bottom and find users instantly marked compatible via Makromusic or requested by the user through the Matching Ratio feature. The Matching Ratio tool is located on the same menu bar. When selected, the individual can find more potential matches. It uses both users' liked songs and artists to calculate a score on how well the users match. The Matches and Matching Ratio menu lets the user swipe left or right to filter through compatible individuals and signal if they want to strike up a conversation. Like most other apps, swiping left rejects a pairing, whereas swiping right accepts. If two people choose each other, they can begin messaging.

Finding A Match By Listening To A Song

Music Dating App Makromusic

Rather than choosing the Quick Match function, Makromusic users can listen to their favorite tunes. The app will display how many matches Makromusic found for the song. Select the Artist tab to view matches via favorite musicians. Users can increase their chances of finding a match by choosing 'Most listenings' at the top of the page. This feature allows individuals to see the most streamed music. The platform even offers a Podcast area for those who don't spend their free time listening to music.

If an individual isn't interested in dating but wants to make friends with like-minded listeners, Makromusic offers a hidden 'Social' setting. Tap the profile icon at the top right and select Settings gears. Next, find and choose the 'Account' menu. Select 'Choose Your Mode' and activate 'Match & Social.' Users can follow each other's new musical discoveries and favorite songs using the social menu.

Marketing on its website suggests that the app is a social media platform. Makromusic even headlines it as 'The Social Media of Music.' However, once in the app, it focuses on being a dating app. Even at signup, it asks about gender matching preferences. Unless the user actively activates the Social setting, it functions like a matchmaking service. That lends a whole new meaning to the term Music Buddy. It's worth noting that it's still an upcoming application and in development, so there are many possibilities the creators can explore. Despite that, Spotify users in the dating pool might be intrigued by Makromusic.
