Crafting is one of the core gameplay loops of Rust, so players will spend a lot of their time with the game creating brand new items. Most of the items that players begin the game with are weak or practically useless against more experienced players, so crafting and upgrading higher quality tools and armor is integral to surviving in the game for very long. No one wants to run around completely naked with only a rock forever.

This means that basically, the players who are able to quickly craft the best items in the game are the ones that will probably stay on top in any given server. In order to craft the higher quality weapons though players will need to know how to get acquire blueprints. These blueprints allow players to craft specific items as long as they have the required components. This guide shows players how to get blueprints.

Rust - How to Find Blueprints

Is Rust Cross-Platform? Player Squad

Before trying to get blueprints players will need to understand exactly what they are. A blueprint basically functions as a recipe for a specific item in the game. Players will begin a game having access to blueprints for many low-level items, meaning that these items can be crafted without finding a blueprint in the world. Once players have obtained a new blueprint it will be tied to that character as long as they are playing on that server, unless the server is restarted or the admin changes the settings. If players switch servers they will lose access to all the blueprints that they currently have.

There are several ways to find blueprints, but it depends on what level of blueprint it is. The lower tier of items can usually be found by opening up barrels, which typically will contain at least one for the player to use. Most blueprints though can't be learned unless the player researches the item itself. This can be done by finding the item out in the world (taking from another player or from storage somewhere) and then using it at a research bench with the required amount of scrap.

Another way to acquire blueprints is by using the experimental feature of a workbench. Players will be able to trade scrap with the workbench in order to obtain a random blueprint of the same quality as the workbench. There are three tiers of quality and each one will cost more scrap.
