This week, Midas returns to Fortnite for Season 4, but this time, he has gills. Players can catch several varieties of fish in Fortnite, a mechanic that was added a few seasons ago. Consuming any of the 40 different varieties of fish afford players certain properties during a match, like extra health, extra shields, or thermal vision. Fish, like weapons, come in different rarities, with Legendary and Mythic varieties being the rarest to find and catch. Epic Games added the Legendary Midas fish to Fortnite Season 4, but it didn’t become widely available until the update to v14.20. Players can also find the Legendary Vendetta Flopper fish now as well.

One of the Season 4 Week 6 Challenges tasks players with catching and consuming one of the Legendary fish to earn 25,000 XP. This Weekly Challenge might actually pose a bit of a challenge for players, a welcome change from the simpler, standard Weekly Challenge fare players have gotten used to. There is no way to guarantee a player will find a Legendary fish, and because these fish have around a 1% drop rate at any fishing spot on the map, this challenge will take time to complete. Players can, however, take this challenge into any Fortnite game mode, including Battle Lab, to make it a little easier. Here’s how to find and catch Legendary fish in Fortnite Season 4.

Where to Find Legendary Fish in Fortnite Season 4

The Vendetta Flopper fish in Fortnite Season 4

Players will have the best luck catching Legendary fish like the Midas Flopper or Vendetta Flopper at named locations near bodies of water. The most obvious choice is The Authority, not only because it is in a neutral biome and therefore a good general area to catch fish, but also because there is an upgrade station nearby that will allow players to grab the right equipment for the job.

When players fish in coastal or mountainous areas, there are fish specific to those locations that they are more likely to find. This could make it more difficult for them to catch the Legendary Floppers they need to complete this Week 6 Challenge. The Midas Flopper can only be found in the waters around The Authority, which is fitting, as this was the location where players first met Midas several seasons ago.

Additionally, while some fish can be caught with a Harpoon Gun or normal Fishing Rod, the Midas and Vendetta Floppers require a Pro Fishing Rod. Like other equipment, players will find fishing rods on the ground around the map, but the easiest way to get a Pro Fishing Rod is to grab a more common normal Fishing Rod and upgrade it. There is an upgrade station in a small shack by a dock at The Authority. To upgrade a Fishing Rod into a Pro Fishing Rod, players need to have 100 of every kind of material.

Catching a Legendary fish will be a matter of luck, but as long as players keep casting their lines, within about 100 tries they should finally get a bite from one. Players can commandeer a motorboat from near the shack where they found the upgrade station and take it into the water surrounding The Authority. They will need to cast their line and keep doing so until they reel in a Legendary fish.

Players will know the fish is Legendary if, when they pull it into the boat, it has an orange heading. The player will need to consume the fish to complete the challenge and earn their XP. Upon doing so, the Legendary Midas Flopper will upgrade the player’s entire inventory to Legendary rarity, and the Legendary Vendetta Flopper will reveal enemies’ locations for a time.

Players might see fish lying around on the ground around the map Consuming these will still give the player certain effects, but it will not count toward completion of the Weekly Challenge.
