With the release of the Naturalist class in Red Dead Online, players can now hunt down all sorts of new legendary creatures like the legendary banded gator. The Naturalist class revolves around hunting and living off of the land, so at certain ranks, players can hunt down specific legendary and non-legendary creatures. This legendary alligator can only be hunted down once the player has reached the fifth Naturalist ranking.
As a part of hunting down each creature in the Naturalist class, players should make a field guide on each animal they hunt. A field guide requires the player to track, study, photograph, sedate, take a sample, kill, and skin each creature. To do this with legendary animals, the player will need to find the legendary beast not once but at least twice. This means the player will have to take on this mission twice to finish their guide.
How to Track Down the Legendary Banded Gator in Red Dead Online
As Harriet will tell the player, this beautiful alligator specimen was spotted out near Saint-Denis. She wishes for the player to bring back a sample of the beast before someone turns it into a wallet or purse as alligator skin is highly fashionable. The player can travel to Saint-Denis and head towards the bog where a cinematic will play of the gator hunting down its dinner. After which the player will need to use their tracking ability to find it once more.
Tracking requires the player to look around and activate different evidence in the nearby area to get a better clue of where the gator has gone. Unlike most other animals, due to the gator staying mostly in the water, they will be harder to track as they don't leave behind much of a trail. After discovering the creature, the player should quickly pull out a weapon to sedate or subdue it as it will charge out of the water.
Once sedated the player can collect a sample to return to Harriet. Players can also photograph the gator here and make a study while looking for it. The creature cannot be skinned and sampled at the same time, so if players want a complete field guide they can return for Gus' portion of the quest to kill and collect the hide from it.
This creature will add to the players 12 legendary red and blonde samples that they need. The sample can be sold to Harriet for $23.50. If the player returns to kill and skin the gator, they can sell its skin for $32.50 and tooth for $3.20 to Gus. Once these pieces are sold, the player can buy the banded gator coat and hood from Gus for$772.25.
