Hunting down legendary animals in Red Dead Redemption 2 can be extremely challenging, but even more so for players who don't know where these creatures reside. 16 different legendary animals offer players a special kind of hunting trip throughout the several locations in-game. These creatures offer special resources and rewards for hunting them down.

Particularly, hunting down legendary animals and skinning them will offer players the ability to make special outfits for Arthur Morgan that cannot be made without these legendary resources. After killing any of these various creatures, travel to the trapper and sell him the hides to enable him to make the legendary outfits. Hunting these beasts can be a very challenging event so don't take them on unprepared.

12 Main Territory Legendary Animals in Red Dead Redemption 2

Although in the main territory there are 12 legendary animals, four more are in the spoiler territory of the game. Four sit in Lemoyne, two are in New Hanover, five are in Ambarino, and one resides in West Elizabeth. These 12 are going to be the legendaries players can get to first.

Grizzly Bear - Ambarino

  • Located in Grizzlies East, Ambarino, just northwest of O'Creagh's Run, this bear is likely the first legendary animal that players meet as he is part of a quest in the earliest stages of the game in Chapter Two. Players can travel with Hosea to this area in search of the creature. After the pair barely dodge being killed by the beast, Hosea admits that he's done with this kind of life and wanders back to camp, but offers to Arthur that he can finish the job and kill it if he so chooses. Likely under-equipped to handle the beast, players can leave and return later to the site to finish the job.

Legendary Wolf - Ambarino

  • A little way northeast of Cotorra Springs is the legendary wolf's territory. Although not part of any particular mission, this wolf is likely to be found as Arthur goes about traveling through its territory on several occasions for other quests and story missions. Keeping Arthur's distance and shooting for the heart will make the wolf go down easy.

White Bison - Ambarino

  • The legendary white bison is located just north of Lake Isabella between the lake and its two rivers, Spider Gorge and Deadboot Creek, that lead down into it. This frozen waterway is a formidable area for an under-suited Arthur, so players should make sure to dress for the weather. The white bison is best to be snuck up on as he isn't the friendliest creature on sight. The bison can charge the player or run if not killed quickly, dragging this fight into a much more dangerous one.

White Moose - Ambarino

  • Northwest of Brandywine Drop and east of Doverhill Arthur can find the legendary moose. As with several similar animals, players will want to keep their distance and sneak up on this impeccable beast but players will need even more of an edge to down it. Using a beefed-up rifle is the best bet for Arthur to kill it as quickly as possible. If not killed fast enough, players will find that this beast is very hard to keep up with.

Legendary Elk - Ambarino

  • East of Bacchus Station, just across the Ambarino border, players can find this white elk. The elk will require a stealthy approach, likely with a bit of help from the tracking view to find. As it is not in a snowy location, the elk is fairly easy to spot. Aiming for the vital spots of the elk will take it down quickly in a few shots.

Albino Beaver - Lemoyne

  • This albino beaver hides between the Mossy Flats and Huron Glen along Butcher Creek. The easiest way to spot this little guy is to head towards the dam on the creek. As he is only a beaver he won't take many shots and won't be much of a runner either. Still stalking this little guy will give players the best opportunity to get him.

Legendary Coyote - Lemoyne

  • In the furthest western corner of Lemoyne near the Old Greenbank Mill, Arthur can find the legendary coyote. This creature is one of the harder ones to come across naturally and will truly take a hunter's gaze to find. Tracking throughout the hills in this area tends to find the coyote the quickest. Be careful to stalk and not race after the tracks as the coyote is speedy and will take off at the slightest idea that it is being hunted. Though fast and stealthy, this coyote can be taken down with one good shot.

White Fox - Lemoyne

  • Just south of Mattock Pond players can find the legendary fox. Much like the coyote, the fox requires a stealthy approach as it is quickly and easily spooked. Quick and clean shots while sneaking through the bushes will give Arthur the best opportunity to down this majestic creature.

Legendary Bull Gator - Lemoyne

  • In the center of Bayou NWA, just south of Lagras, along the river players can find the legendary bull gator. Before hunting down this giant white gator, Arthur will have to complete the chapter four story mission Country Pursuits. This is the most difficult of all the legendary animals to kill and will take several shots to be downed. Players should keep a good distance as the bull gator will charge and once Arthur is locked in its jaws, he is unlikely to win the fight. Sniping the head is the best option for hitting vital organs. Be wary in the swamplands and try to stay out of the water.

Big Horn Ram - New Hanover

  • Located near Cattail Pond, New Hanover, just between the pond and the Dakota River, this legendary ram is not fearful like the buck and should only take a few shots to down if the player has upgraded their weapons. If not, this could be a race on horseback to hunt down this big horned fella.

White Boar - New Hanover

  • East of the Aberdeen Pig Farm, Arthur can find the white legendary boar. This boar will need a powerful weapon to be taken down and players are advised to sneak up on the beast as it will charge and gore Arthur if it is given the chance. This pig will quickly run off after the first shot and will likely have to be chased down, taking several shots to be killed even with better equipment.

Spotted Buck - West Elizabeth

  • Located in Big Valley, West Elizabeth, just southwest of Black Bone Forest, this white patterned buck is one of the easiest to hunt as long as Arthur is a good shot and fairly stealthy. This one is not set up by any quests, so players will have to go and seek this one out for themselves, stalking the woods near Strawberry. As long as players have practiced their aim and stealth, this big buck should go down in one to two shots.

4 Spoiler Territory Legendary Creatures in Red Dead Redemption 2

These creatures can be found after completing chapter six in the game, so players should not look further into this article if they don't want to be spoiled on new areas of the game they have not yet reached.

Legendary Cougar - New Austin

  • Just north of Gaptooth Ridge and west of Tumbleweed, players can find the legendary cougar. The cougar will not spawn until players have tracked its several discarded leftovers. Once it has spawned, be on the lookout as the cougar is the hardest of the legendary creatures to hit outside of using dead-eye. Due to it being so incredibly fast, players may want to take a powerful weapon that is better for close combat.

White Pronghorn - New Austin

  • West of Rio De Lobo Rock and east of Rio Bravo, the pronghorn prances about. This is one of the quickest of the horned beasts, and even with stalking can be hard to down before it is out of sight. Using a scent remover can help with this aspect. Though this creature can sprint, it can also be killed with one good shot.

Takana Bison - New Austin

  • West of Manteca Falls and south Stillwater Creek, Arthur may spot the legendary takana bison. This bison is not aggressive or fearful when seen out until shot at. Just make sure to down it before it runs off after releasing the first round.

Legendary Panther - Lemoyne

  • Finally, the last legendary creature is a panther just west of Shady Belle and southeast of Bolger Glade. This panther is the most difficult of the legendary creatures to pin down as it will not even spawn until Arthur has reached level nine of the master hunter challenges. This will require Arthur to complete several grandiose hunter stunts in a particular order. If the player has acquired this level of the master hunter, they will already know how to put down this beautiful beast.
