The world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is sprawling, detailed, and filled with seemingly countless things to do, including the card game Gwent. Geralt can play Gwent against a range of characters and win anything from random items to unique cards. In the “Collect ‘Em All” Witcher 3 quest, players are tasked with finding and acquiring every single Gwent card in the game.

With such a massive world to explore and so many easily missable activities, collecting all 196 cards is quite a daunting task. Between the sheer volume of cards and the various ways they can be obtained, finding them all is no small feat. Here are all the ways to collect Gwent cards as well as their locations in the game.

There are several ways players can acquire Gwent cards: buying from vendors, winning Gwent matches, and receiving them as rewards for quests. The simplest route is to purchase them from vendors such as innkeepers and traders. Playing a Gwent match against NPCs requires a bit more effort, but such characters are easy to find. However, certain cards can only be obtained by completing quests. It is important to take note of these quests to complete Collect ‘Em All.

Winning and Earning Gwent Cards in The Witcher 3

In each region, players can challenge NPCs to a game of Gwent to win random cards from them. While the world of The Witcher 3 is quite large, there are designated folks in nearly every town that one can challenge to a match. Common characters like innkeepers, crafters, and merchants are often willing to play Gwent. However, it is important to note that Geralt can only win one card per NPC. After that first victory, they will give him items instead.

Throughout The Witcher 3, players will receive various quests that reward cards upon completion. These are particularly important since many of these cards cannot be obtained in any other way. The first type is Gwent quests, which are specifically centered around the card game.

  • Gwent: Playing Innkeeps: Received after completing the tutorial Gwent match. If Olivier is dead before challenging him to Gwent, his card will still be available at the Kingfisher Inn.
  • Gwent: Velen Players: Obtained by approaching the Bloody Baron directly in Crow’s Perch or by checking the notice board for his posting.
  • Gwent: Big City Players: Obtained by approaching Vimme Vivaldi directly at the Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad or by checking the notice board in Hierarch Square. This must be completed before the secondary quest "Reason of State."
  • Gwent: Old Pals: Obtained by speaking to Zoltan Chivay at the Rosemary and Thyme in Novigrad. This must be completed before the "Battle of Kaer Morhen" and "Reason of State" quests.
  • Gwent: Skellige Style: Obtained by checking the notice board at Kaer Trolde Harbor in Skellige. This must be completed before the main quest "Battle Preparations."
  • Gwent: High Stakes: Obtained by checking the notice board by St. Gregory’s Bridge in Novigrad. Players should keep in mind this tournament is particularly difficult and plan accordingly.

There are also a few secondary quests that will earn a Gwent card:

  • A Matter of Life and Death: Obtained by speaking to Triss after escaping the witch hunters during "Count Reuven’s Treasure."
  • A Dangerous Game: Obtained by speaking to Zoltan at the Rosemary and Thyme after saving Dandelion during "A Poet Under Pressure."
  • Shock Therapy: Obtained by speaking to the druids in Ard Skellig, to the west of the Gedyneith signpost.
  • Following the Thread: Obtained by checking the notice board in Hierarch Square.

While the Collect ‘Em All quest is not necessary to complete The Witcher 3, gathering all 196 Gwent cards can be a fun challenge. Doing so also unlocks the Card Collector achievement. With the game coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S before the end of 2021, new and returning fans may want to keep a lookout for all the Gwent cards from the start.
