The main antagonist of the mini-storyline is a brute named Joey Ultraviolet and taking him down awards some of the best guns in all of Borderlands 3. But players will need to do a little work if they hope to take down the Cartel’s big bad. Here’s how to find him.

How to Find (& Defeat) Joey Ultraviolet in Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 Revengence of Revenge of the Cartels

Before players can even attempt to take on the boss of the Cartels, they’ll need to gain access to Joey’s Villa. They do that by bringing Maurice several decoder rings, which can be obtained by taking down Children of the Vault enemies. After collecting thirty, Maurice will open a portal to the villa.

Once the vault hunters have landed at their destination, it’s time to start taking down bad guys. The villa is overrun with Cartel thugs and mini-bosses, and it will take a decent commitment of time to reach the end. They’ll first need to make their way to the giant mansion that’s the centerpiece of the villa, but to do that, they’ll have to survive a gauntlet of attacking enemies in the palatial front gardens.

A mini-boss will spawn at the front doors of the giant house, and after taking them out, players will have access to explore the location. Directly inside is a massive and incredibly gaudy statue, which is missing a golden mask. It’s now the player’s objective to find that mask. The previous version of the event had the mask hiding out upstairs in the mansion. This time, the vault hunters will have to trek all the way out to the back gardens of the villa to find it.

In the very back of the garden, there is a small room. Another mini-boss guards this location, and after taking them down, players will be able to sneak in and grab the golden mask. Mask in hand, they should head back to the front of the villa and the statue. Place the mask into the glowing green spot designated for it, and watch as a secret passageway to the depths of the mansion appears. Hopping down will trigger the final boss encounter.

Players should focus on killing the waves of regular enemies that Joey calls in. Eventually, he’ll teleport into the arena with two guards. Until his guards are killed, he’s invulnerable, so the vault hunters need to focus their attention on the small mini-bosses first. After killing the smaller enemies, Joey will finally be susceptible to damage. He has a ton of HP, so bring powerful guns, and don’t forget to use action skills. Eventually, Joey Ultraviolet will fall. Collect the loot and head back to Maurice to complete the mission.

Players can repeat this special Borderlands 3 quest as many times as they like to earn some amazing loot!
