For starters, the game only features 400 Pokemon out of the possible 800 Pokemon introduced in the series. This was due to the developers deciding to cut development time to focus on the animations in the game. Although, fans went to quickly point out that the animations in the game were lacking, citing the developers went ahead and took some shortcuts. Regardless, the game went on to be one of the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch games. Here's how players can find Wailord in the game.

Wailord is one of the biggest Pokemon to exist in the Pokemon universe. During the third generation with Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, the games were restricted with its hardware only being on the Gameboy Advance. Players were able to see Wailord's full size when the game leaped into 3D with Pokemon Colosseum. Its massive size would easily trump the size of many other Pokemon. It also makes an appearance in Pokemon Sword & Shield. This guide will help players find Wailord in the game.

Wailord is a fairly common Pokemon in Pokemon Sword & Shield. It makes several appearances in both the base game and in the Isle of Armor DLC. Here are all the locations where players can encounter a Wailord.

  • Base Game Wailord Location: Route 9, Max Raid Battles: Bridge Field, East Lake Axewell, Lake of Outrage, North Lake Miloch, South Lake Miloch, West Lake Axewell
  • Isle of Armor DLC Wailord Location: Workout Sea, Max Raid Battles: Workout Sea, Stepping-Stone Sea, Insular Sea, Honeycalm Sea

To capture it, make sure to bring a Pokemon knowing the move Thunder Wave. This will make it much easier to capture. It will likely be level 60 during its encounter. Using Quick Balls on the first turn is also a great way to capture it early on.

Pokemon Sword & Shield marks the first time in series history where a mainline title has been given paid DLC. Players could be $30 USD for the Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass. This DLC included two separate halves, the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra. The Isle of Armor released earlier this June and provided a new wild area, over 100 older Pokemon, and a new story for players to follow. The game is still one of the fastest-selling games on the Nintendo Switch.
