Snom is an Ice/Bug-type Pokémon that can be caught in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This small monster debuted in Generation VIII, evolving into the elegant Frosmoth. Snom is 1'00" tall larval Pokémon that can come with the Hidden Ability Ice Scales. This ability is unique to the evolutionary line and halves damage from Special moves. Trainers looking to catch Snom will want to travel north to the snowy mountains of the Paldea region.
Players that wish to catch Snom early in their journey, may run into an issue. This Pokémon only appears in Glaseado Mountains, encountered at level 30+. Trainers should first prepare by eating a Sandwich that increases the spawn rate of either Ice-types or Bug-Types. Snom is not a difficult monster to encounter, but every bonus helps. Trainers may even get lucky and find a shiny Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet.
How To Get Snom Early In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
When traveling through Paldea, players may stumble upon an NPC that wishes to trade his Snom. He can be found in Cortondo (East) and is named Glen. This NPC desires a Flabebe and will trade away his Snom, nicknamed Snowsalot. Flabebe can be caught in a few areas across Paldea and likes to be around flowers. A great place to encounter this Pokémon is South Province (Area Four). Trainers will want to position their character icon right under the (Area Four) words on the map. Once players have caught a Flabebe, return to Glen and initiate the trade.
Snom has a low base stat total of 185, increasing to 475 when it evolves. Frosmoth has a high Special Attack, but less than stellar Defense and Special Defense stats. Similar to Espeon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Frosmoth is used as a glass cannon in a team. These are Pokémon that have high offensive stats, but low defenses. They are used primarily to deal damage quickly and faint from any strong move. Frosmoth especially has a 4x weakness to Rock-type and Fire-type moves, two common types. As mentioned previously, catching a Snom with Ice Scales will mitigate some damage from Special moves.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have plenty of Ice-type monsters for players to collect. While some Pokémon are in higher-level regions, Trainers can venture out to these snowy regions at any time. Ice-type is arguably the worst type in the game, as it only has one resistance and four weaknesses. However, the new Terastallize mechanic in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can be used to temporarily take away this hindrance. While Snom and Frosmoth may not be the best Pokémon, their excellent designs make them worthy team members.
